I mained a moonkin during vanilla, so I may not be the best person to ask about playing a class for performance rather than fun.
I mean, yeah, we could all do the same DPS but then wouldn’t that make our utility and self-heals OP? We already lost some utility in the name of class balance from the vanilla days of being a support class.
If everyone can do the exact same DPS, what is the role of non-DPS (utility) spells for DPS classes? Self-heals? Dispells? Crowd control? Some classes have more of those than others.
To be clear, I think there’s some fine-tuning to be done, as there usually is so early in an expansion (and more is coming as soon as Tuesday), but it’s not as dramatic as some posts on these forms make it out to be. I think the idea that every class has to be identical rather than just in the ballpark is extreme.
Play the class that’s fun for you.

That would be a very boring game. Remember when in wrath all the buffs got spread out to every class? It was boring.
There’s more to the game than dps. There’s more to dps classes than damage.
Sorry bud, but even if blizz did (its an impossible task btw) you would still find yourself at the bottom of the dps charts if you’re not as competant as the rest of the group.
Then you have to factor in people that have sockets vs those who don’t, have enchants vs those who don’t. Then theres ilvl difference.
No. And no. It. Is. Impossible. And. Also. A. Dumb. Request.
It really isn’t possible to make them all the same but it would be nice if they closed the gap between the top few and the bottom few because it’s one hell of a gap!
I don’t 100% agree with this dude is saying since is to far fetched. However it kinda annoying when your class is a pure dps spec and getting beaten dps wise by hybrid classes. Like how is class able to heal and still do more dps then us when all we got is dps.
It seems crazy to me that with all the simulation programs out there, how do they not know at least pretty close how much of a spread of dps there will be in any scenario for their classes?
Run a single target sim for each character in optimal stats. Hey look. Class X does 3k damage more than any other class. We should probably adjust that.
It shouldn’t take until after a game is out to figure this out.
Of course part of it could be they are ok with it because tuning causes class switching, which causes more time played and often more money spent in boosts and stuff.
So, someone is probably like ‘hey sir/ma’am, dh is pretty low in our sims. We were thinking of bringing it in line more’
‘Nah. If we do that, people will stick with that class, be content, and get bored in a month. We need to make sure they are playing alts and main switching for a few months. Then we’ll buff dh once they have max renown with another class and get more time played out of them gearing their dh.’
‘Sir/ma’am, that sounds kinda evil…’
‘The Horde is dead. Uh I mean, what?’

Can’t do this.
They need people to re roll to extend subs longer.
If everyone just settled on main the first round, less sub time.
Everything in this expansion feels like “how to stretch sub time without meaningful content” to me

I’m all for it but is it even possible?
Or is that kinda asking them to reinvent the game at a core level
No thanks.
Classes are already too alike.
And also do these sims you’re talking about reflect the 20% PVE buff that mortal strike just received? Like 2 days ago, and which I thought was not in effect yet
It’s hilarious to even have to say it, but Blizzard Entertainment needs to call up the Class Balance dev team that handles SWTOR and get all the classes balanced within 5% of each other… SWTOR has that crap on lockdown, and their patch notes are always minor buffs/nerfs (Never personally seen more than a 15% either way, it’s usually 2-5% changes every few months.)

Try Torghast as a hunter.
We have crap for anima powers. Rogues have great anima powers.
Bosses ignore pets after like 40-50% health now too. They’ll outright drop all threat on your pet and be unable to gain more.

Yeaaaaaah that’s impossible. Humans will always figure out how to get an advantage. That is like crack for our brains to find shortcuts.
Have you tried using Misdirection macro’d to automatically target your pet, and also using Disengage + Feign Death to gain instant distance and the boss re-targeting to your pet for a moment?
I’m not sure what part of “unable to gain more” means “Just use misdirection to give them threat”
Not every boss does it, but the majority of them do.
Imagine different classes having different strengths and weaknesses
What a concept

Literally impossible to have all classes do the same dps. Mobility, fight mechanics, random buffs, mastery stats etc. All these things change how a player can apply their dps. I have fights where I explode things because I’m ignored. Then in the next fight all the melee are beating me because I’m dodging lasers or soaking damage.
A better idea would be to design fights so that various classes have strong spots and feel good about playing.

This sounds like the most boring thing I can possibly imagine.
I’d rather have imbalance than complete homogenization. They should trim down the edge cases, absolutely, but a 5-10% difference in effective DPS (let’s be real) is not a good reason to homogenize all the classes. Which is what it would take for this to happen.
And really…
The real problem is encounter design. More classes, and more playstyles should have opportunities to shine - but time and time again we end up with a ‘meta’ where one playstyle wins out. It doesn’t have to be that way, though.
