Ever since I installed 2022-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5016691) the other day, I’ve been experiencing extreme FPS stutters when I move my character, that clear after a few seconds, till I move again.
One wonders where the testing was, as I’m playing a hugely popular game on a far from uncommon setup. I’ve been effectively unable to do any content that requires quick reactions, since this !@#$ began
Really don’t think the problem and the Windows update are related. I work with a handful of game engines and haven’t noticed any issues with performance or stuttering on Windows 11 after the latest updates. It’s possible that some device security options got turned on or something, which might lead to some performance issues, but I doubt it would reliably do what you’re describing.
What it sounds more like is your drivers aren’t up to date. If your GPU drivers are fully up to date, then it’s likely drivers that deal with peripherals, sound devices and network cards. You could start doing some profiling with LatencyMon and see what’s hitching your system, but you’ll have to google for a guide on it because it would turn this post into an essay. I do want to say that within the last Windows update or two, there were some small changes in the 32bit framework, but I’d have to double check that. Shouldn’t be an issue with WoW since it uses 64bit, but those changes could interfere with the system if your drivers/softwares are out of date.
Also: Addons. Disable them all and do a UI reset, if you want to test more accurately.
Well, I tried updating my video card driver from stable to unstable, yesterday, as that was the only newer version, and there hasn’t been a newer stable version since long before this stuttering began.
That made zero difference.
The only things that changed aside from the Win11 update, was a new minor WoW client update, and some minor addon updates. Disabling addons changes nothing, so if it’s not the Win11 update, it has to either be the minor WoW client update a couple days ago, or something else has gone wrong that affects no other app, and that a scan and repair of WoW hasn’t fixed (which I also tried yesterday).
