Please use this thread as a place to propose new “major” rune ideas for Season of Discovery (SoD). Major runes in this case are considered calss altering, for example, warlock metamorphosis (aka tanking rune). This is not the place to recommend something like crusader strike.

Sub class type: Melee DPS
Description: Battlemages have been around since Vanilla, mainly found in SM. This rune would transform a Mage into a staff and sword wieldling melee dps. It would function somewhat similarly to the Walock Meta in that it would change several spells. Equipe 2h staff in mainhand and 1h sword or dagger in OH. Change ranged spells like Fireball into a elemental melee strike. Focused around fire damage primarily, with emphasis on point blank AOE.
Acquisition: Thematically, this would have to come from SM. Perhaps it requires finding and reading specific tomes in the library, or MCing a Battlemage and having a spell you could use on the mage to teach them the rune. Or some strange combination of both.
Supporting Runes: So i think pulling in some PBaoe fire spells would be a plus. The dragon breath one that stuns could be good. However, Id add one new rune as well. Depending how the system shakes out maybe this rune is class agnostic so other could use it as well. This rune would allow Chance on hit effects to benefit from your Spell Power. This makes firey weapon a great choice, but also trinkets such as Heart of Wyrmthalak a very interesting choice as well. Could benefit pallies and shamans as well.
Realism of Implementation: 3/5 I really want to make this higher as people have been asking about battlemage since vanilla. Only reason its lower at a 3/5 is because the new mage healer run is already in. Giving mages 2 new “specs” before other classes get one seems like a strech.
Notes: Battlemaged have been around as long as the game has. SM being an end game raid is the PERFECT opportunity to make this a reality
