I’m not necessarily complaining about today’s extensions, extensions happen for reasons, I get it. But my core point is why does this keep happening every week? And sometimes multiple times per week? And yes, yes, I know, it’s the start of an expansion. Although really it’s almost not, I mean, entering third week of the season, about to get our second vault rewards, game was out for a couple of weeks prior to that, as well.
At what point as consumers should we start getting concerned about the VERY HIGH volume of repeated maintenance being done? I’ve no problem with fixing problems, once again, I’m far more concerned about why there are so many problems to begin with tho.

I heard one of the hamsters that runs the wheel in the server room had an injury. It’s just speculation, but now there’s one less brain behind the operation.
I mostly hope he’s ok so next week we only have to wait one extended hour.

Extended maintenance will stop the first week after we stop getting flooded with 74 different posts about extended maintenance every time it happens despite it being a common occurrence people should expect

20 years of code, with turnover in who wrote the code is probably something that contributes to all the issues. With that said, Blizzard can just change the Maintenance window from 7am PDT to 12pm PDT permanently and then there would be no issues. If it comes up sooner then “yay” if it comes up at the end, then so be it.

Completely agree. Just make the time 7-12PM every Tuesday and then if you happen to finish at 10AM then bonus.

Ya it’s a bit bothersome. There’s no good reason imo, that these maintenances can’t be done at low traffic hours, other than, blizz’s profit margin or something.

I don’t know if it was a myth or urban legend that back in vanilla they brought down the servers to do things like PvP rank calculations and it made a lot of sense. However in 2024 with 20 years of experience in deploying patches and having weekly maintenance, along with vastly different and improved infrastructure options, I don’t understand why weekly maintenance exists anymore.
I know I don’t work for Blizzard or have any real idea how their infrastructure works but as a lifelong IT guy I’m really interested in the specifics of what happens during weekly maintenance.
At the very least, they should pad their expected times in their messages to say it will be ready by 12PM PST in the first place since every person that plays the game knows they will have problems and extend it, and everyone would be all impressed and happy if it ended up not taking that long.

Blizz staff are placing bets and watching the stream - once Liquid gets 8/8 the realms will come back up.
(Some of the luckier devs don’t have to watch the stream, they are there)

No but this is really getting ridiculous, some of us only can play at certain times and since this xpac its always either multiple maints or fro 1 hr to 3 hr to roll a 20D hr maints.

They need to have a grave yard shift on maintenance days and do it during the hours of 12AM - 5AM. Or farm it out to a company in New Delhi that can do it during those hours
