[Main Thread] WoW Classic: not able to install - June 2023

Didn’t work for me sadly

another day, disgusting fix this. an entire section of the game is unplayable. WoW Classic hardcore is supposed to be coming out this month, you think anyone on mac will be able to play it? LOL disgusting

OK I have had some success in resolving my Mac Mini 2s ability to get past the initialise stage and update recent patches on both retail and classic. For Mac users → go to system settings → Privacy and security → Full disk access → and toggle on ‘Agent’ ‘Battle’ and ‘Relauncher’. Then log back into Battle net app and should be successful. Good Luck!

I got Battlenet and WOW to work. I tried to do the Battlenet setup yesterday and it asked if I wanted to download Rosetta which I clicked yes but it never downloaded. The progress bar stuck and never moved. Today, I was trying to get my Adobe Professional to run and it asked me to download Rosetta which I agreed and it did download. So I went back to Battlenet setup and clicked and it worked. Now WOW did play yesterday but wouldn’t let me join a realm. Today after fixing Battlenet, WOW opened and let me play the game with no problems. Thanks.

I manually installed rosetta and it FINALLY downloaded for me. I was able to launch AND get into game.

What a mess.

I don’t know why but it seems like the performance has taken a nosedive.

5 days of subscription left since the time I bought and been unable to download the game.

And technical support is a complete joke, they pretend like nothing is wrong with this garbage which has been broken for months. I personally tried all their “solutions” 3 or more times and it was a complete waste.

But honestly, I’m glad I can’t install the game. This company does not deserve another cent from Mac users after the way they have treated us.

ONE OF THE SOLUTIONS THAT WORKED FOR ME TODAY

Last two days on subscription left, so I decided to give it one more try with different approach. If someone might give a logical reason why this might have worked then I would be happy to know.

As usual I put wow classic to download. It downloaded till 30 mbs and then it was stuck…
So I was like dmn, again… Then I decided to switch on the VPN that I have Cyberghost which I use and chose United States server.

After that I paused the initialization and pressed play button to start download again and to my surprise it started downloading but with very little speed.

First few minutes my download speed was 4mb and then it went up to 15mbs.

In activity monitor I do have 3 agents with 99% agent CPU usage and I did not close them as my M1 max will handle it no issues.

So finally I got game downloaded.

PS! I did try to shut down vpn, but then download stiped and did not work again. So I had to put vpn on again, pause the download and then start it again and it worked.

UPDATE:

I now went to try download retail wow. Initializing started to work, which did not start without VPN. Downloaded till150MB with okay speed and then last 2 mbs took 2 minutes.

After which it started to download!

Sounds like you just had a diff issue than most. A bad network path to blizzards servers somehow, on top of the permissions issues which you probably already fixed previously with other attempts.

Patching itself is absolutely fixed just granting agent and bnet full disk access. after that the bugs that remains in bnet are

  • still just being a cpu wasting resource hog and memory leaking pike of junk
  • getting stuck and “pausing” before throwing error that it can’t repair permissions at end of patching (which is annoying but harmless).
  • Still being an intel only binary that requires rosetta despite having literal years now to build it better

But with full disk, it at least patches fine, barring another issue like bad network path i suppose that you must have had.

I have tried EVERYTHING mentioned here on this forum, but still CANNOT install the game on my Mac. Installation always stuck at the beginning of the initialization process. Activity monitor shows 3 Agent app running on the background. Each using 100% of cpu. BLIZZARD please fix this issue. I really want to install the game before the hardcore WOW launches. WOW and HoTS are the only games I play now, please make it work on Mac.

I wonder if this has to do with Microsoft buy out. And if this is what we expect no further support?

nothing to do with MS buyout. Activision disassembled mac support team years ago. Laid off all mac specialized tech support (forum support now done by PC tech support to best of their abilities, and are still very much appreciated here) . Reassigned mac developers to non mac teams and left actual mac support in shambles since. Support is an afterthought now and that’s why no new titles support mac and existing ones sit broken long periods of time.

My hope is that MS actually gives mac resources back, but it’s a small hope at best and not very likely. I suspect that very little will change honestly, in either direction.

I want a refund of the time I have left.

Hi guys,
I wanted to pass on a thing that worked for me (disk permissions/disk access didnt work). I found this link, which finally worked -

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/blizzard/t/wow-still-stuck-on-loops-of-doom-of-scanning-updating/16806

Long story short
Now delete the following files:

  1. Go to \Data\data folder.
    a. Example location: World of Warcraft\Data\data
  2. Delete all the *.idx files.
    a. NOT the data.### files.
  3. Run scan/repair or install again

This seemed to repair Battle.net updater for this M1 Mac returning player and stop the 5x agent spawn in activity monitor.

This worked for me thank you!

thank you devs for fixing this issue, classic finally launches

I wouldn’t be surprised if just deleting the .lock files is enough.

I am not sure which combination of things worked for me, but between this:

  1. Go to \Data\data folder.
    a. Example location: World of Warcraft\Data\data
  2. Delete all the *.idx files.
    a. NOT the data.### files.
  3. Run scan/repair or install again

And this:
Close battlenet, go into System Setting> Privacy & Security> Full Disk Access press + then search for ‘Agent’ open it and make sure it’s checked on run the battlenet app again should install the game.

I am able to play!

My fellow Mac users - after several hours of fruitlessly getting nowhere and the game not installing at all and refusing to download files, this has fixed it for me (OS 12, M1 Pro)

  1. Deleted the folder /Users/Shared/Battle.net
  2. Then went to System Prefs > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Full Disk Access … then give permission to:
    a) Agent app located in /Users/Shared/Battle.net/Agent/Agent.app
    b) and the Battle.net app

Restarting Battle.net, the Wow Classic was able to finally install and have today played 30 mins of hardcore (before server shutdown)

Wish there was a sticky or more obvious way to find tips to fix this problem which clearly affects many, unsure if the above will work on OS 13, etc

Good luck

That work around has been posted many times for weeks and for most part it works “enough” but not completely.

What’s a shame is that blizzard hasn’t just fixed the permissions escalation of agent process already. users shouldn’t need to grant it basically god access to files because app forgot how to work correctly :\
