Just throwing my hat in the ring saying I have this same problem. I was logged onto Hakman-Ysera prior to the 3p PST launch time and my UI was intact - had been since I created it weeks ago.
If I’m understanding what is said above… if I were to delete my retail\WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\edit-mode-cache-account.txt file (blank, save for a couple of numbers), and rename my edit-mode.cache-account.old back to .txt, that would restore it? Because that looks to have stuff in it yet, and a last edited date prior to today.

Once the 3p PST launch time hit, I gave it a couple of minutes and went through to log onto each of my characters to start their rest XP time. I have 10 characters. As I was going through each character, logging in, waiting to see “you feel rested,” and logging out to move on to the next, the load times started getting longer and longer. When I logged onto character number 9, my UI was suddenly gone. I thought it was maybe that I hadn’t gone into edit mode and set my UI preset for them, so I went into edit mode to do that, and my UI preset was gone. Loaded character #10, which I had logged into and played since setting their UI, and it was gone for them as well.
Confirmed. Worked for me. Go to retail\WTF\Account\ACCOUNT\ and delete/rename/move the edit-mode-cache-account.txt. Then rename edit-mode-cache-account.old to edit-mode-cache-account.txt. I did have to go into edit mode and select my preset again, but that’s a small price to pay.
That is EERILY similar to exactly what I was doing when my settings died, going through every alt to make sure rested XP started. Unlikely it’s related, just weirdly similar.
For me it was previously saved layouts. I haven’t checked any other characters, but zolfaredk on area 52 (layout was named chicken). If you could somehow magically find my layout and give it back to me I would greatly appreciate it.
I have two accounts with toons spread across three realms (Earthen Ring, Kilrogg, and Winterhoof under a single battle.net account. All of my toons used the same UI profile which has disappeared again. It appears to happen in conjunction with World Server crashes.
This just happened to me. Not only did it reset the layout I spent quite some time tuning, but it also deleted the save of my UI profile so I have to start over from scratch. Extremely frustrating and will most likely push me back to a mod UI…
This issue has occurred several times for me, including today after I got kicked out of game during launch. I had a basic preset that moved the talking head and quest log to my preferred locations and shared it with all of my characters (Verisse-Dalaran) on Dalaran. I also had a character specific UI configuration for Zynne-Dalaran. For Zynne, I disabled most of my add-ons and used the base UI for the Dracthyr starting zone. The saved preset is gone now.
Mine was gone too (and still is). But it only affected the shared configurations I created. The ones for the individual character stayed. I tried the reddit suggestion of renaming the edit-mode-cache-account.old file but that didn’t work. I saw Joynueer say that the team is working on it. Hopefully it restores what I had, if not, hopefully it doesn’t break in the future.
I wouldn’t plan on it restoring ANYTHING because people may have renamed their new layout the same as the old ones they lost, so they wouldn’t be able to implement that. If anything everyone should just accept the loss and start a new layout and make sure to export the code and save it in a file for if/when this happens again.
However, when i logged in about 4 mins after launch my entire UI was wipped clean. All my presets and keybindings were gone. Whats worse is that my minimap DOESNT WORK. Its just see through. You try leveling without it. Plus everytime i log back in my minimap goes back to top right and still doesnt work.
All my addons were fine.
Later when other guidies were having issues their uis were wipped as well.
Considering that the UI was a HUGE thing this xpac, you completely failed at it. I shouldnt have to sit for 20 mins redoing my ui bc your systems messed up.
I have attempted to use the UI Edit Mode to create a new settings. These settings are not saved after logging out and logging back in and are not available to reload.
My wow Client is set to run as admin, so I doubt its a permissions issue. I have disabled all add-ons
Its doing it to me too. I’ve tried like 3 times, I have named it then after moving everything and saving it again I log off and back and gets back to modern layout and my new layout is gone. Tried switching characters and its gone. ;(
Was having the same issue for hours but for some reason this worked. All I did was make a few changes on one toon saved it then logged onto and other and loaded the said profile. Then logged back onto 1st toon and it was saved. Have had no problems since.
I’m also having this issue, even if I save, log into another toon. When I get onto the other toon the setup I just saved as a “test setup” is not on the list to choose. I’ve made sure properties settings are appropriate as well.
