Tried the workaround by going into the retail folder, but get asked for a generated authentication code. None is coming through.

It’s an issue on Blizzard’s end so will just have to wait patiently for them to fix it. I am going to watch nice videos on the internet for now.
I uninstalled Battle.net and even went so far as to uninstall all of the games. Guess we gotta wait, bummer since its WSG weekend.

launcher comes up alright but it says it needs to update the client and then on nothing happens. if you close the client and restart the client, it goes back to the old status where it says the agent went to sleep.

go into my computer, Program files (86), World of Warcraft, Retail, launche the executable there. It worked for me

Same here. Windows 10 update, now client is asleep and won’t wake up. Tried deleting cache, nothing. Is Blizzard aware of this, and if so, are they doing anything. It’s gotta be on their end with so many of us having the same problem.
It opens the login, but what account name? My usual and old one said NO ACCOUNT FOUND.

same issue here, thought it might be 'Scorpion Virus' sounds like a lot of peeps have the same problem...i deleted interface/addon file seeing if addons were corrupted & causing the problem....realm status is fine...but still nothing

I can confirm this same issue. I can also confirm that launching WoW from the WoW executable will let you back into game, bypassing the Battle.net launcher.

Same here, failed to start games
Worked for me, also. Been playing and close to the rep to get my flying, haha 300 rep to go, that’s the next hurdle.
you need to go deeper into your files. That first exe will only open the launcer, look in the retail folder for an exe file
