I played in Vanilla from level 1 up to killing about 6 bosses of 40-man Naxxramas. It was great and fun as I was hardcore back then. But right now, I am just casual. Current content in BFA is awesome for me as a Casual. I wont redo Classic becoz I know I wont be able to cope up with it… that content is not casual friendly. I was there before, it was fun but I am not gonna do it again. I would just stay with BFA.
Now, if Classic is opened, half or many of the population might go thru it. What will happen to BFA? Less players? Might result into longer queue times becoz of lesser tanks and lesser healers and longer to assemble Dungeon Finder Mythic + group and Raids which would not be good for me.
A lot of us already dont play retail.

BFA will just collapse shards so you probably won’t even notice a difference in population.

You can play classic and just be playing casually.
Don’t care. Modern wow can DIAF.

People play vanilla casually… you can too if you want.
You had basically a two year timeline to get through all the content in Vanilla. In Classic you have an infinite timeline. No rush, no hurry, no clock ticking. If that doesn’t cater to casual gameplay, then what does?

Why don’t you have enough time for classic?
You have the rest of your life, what’s the rush?
Sure, you don’t have enough time to be hardcore progressive cutting edge, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still play and enjoy the game without rushing everything.
I just dont understand the “don’t have time to classic” crowd, you literally have all the time in the world, classic isn’t going anywhere, hit max level in 1 month or 1 year it won’t make a difference.

If Classic is so much better than BFA that it draws off the majority of the BFA playerbase, surely that indicates BFA deserves to die.
(I don’t think it will; I think people playing BFA will not want to give up their raining orange and purple pixels and their dungeon queues.)

I don’t think it will affect BFA all that much. A lot of people who are going to play classic aren’t currently playing BFA.
I was there before. I know how it is like. Leveling is hard. It’s very inconvenient.
Running on foot around Azeroth? Reach level 40 and that freaking mount is expensive. So you want me to run on foot to Razorfen Downs, Razorfen Kraul, Maraudon, Black Fathom Deeps? When forming a group, one has to be on Ironforge or Stormwind to shout for LFG? And those dungeons takes forever to beat. And when you do the quest, you have to tag those mobs, no sharing. Would I want that?
Dungeons on Classic cant be zerg’d like what we do right now… Let the tank agro them all and DPS’ers nuke them all. No, it’s not like that. We need to have a strategy on each mob pull. 45 min was a speed run timer on the first speed run on Stratholme. It means if you do it normally, it would reach up to an hour. An hour for just 1 dungeon?
Then 40 man raids… How many bosses in Molten Core? How many loots on one run? Want to gear 40 people to progress to next raid Black Wing Lair, AQ 40 and Naxx40. It’s going to take forever to gear up 40 people.
I did Naxx 40 before as a hardcore when I had my playing hours. I saw how Naxx 40 was. It would take me forever (maybe a lifetime )to get there with my few playing hours right now.
Would I just want to beat Scholomance when I go back to Classic? No, I want AQ40 beaten. No thank you… I don’t have time to grind for it. I would stay with current WoW.
Okay then! I think it’s a bad choice, but it’s a choice you’re making with your eyes open. I don’t disagree with any of your factual information. And I hope you are right and Classic draws off much of BFA’s playerbase.

I’d say classic is casual friendly you can take your time reaching endgame, enjoying the leveling content. Not grinding world quests everyday for AP with no end in sight, then having a patch that comes out that makes all that ap/gear you farmed irrelevant.

Anyone that says modern WoW deserves to die is being very shortsighted and stupid. If modern dies, Classic dies with it.
You should want both to do well. If you are just that petty, then Classic deserves to die as well.

OP, you just listed all the ways in which Classic could be seen as a PITA to a casual player of modern WoW, then you worry that it will bleed subs away from BfA. I think that from your own perspective, you’re worrying needlessly because there are plenty of players who think like you (and not all of them are casual).
I won’t be anywhere near as serious either, burned that candle long ago. But over time I’ll still clock appreciable playtime.
I’d be playing BfA now if it weren’t gutted, but when Classic arrives I’ll have no further need of retail.

If Modern dies because people leave BFA for other morepigs or leave the morepig genre entirely, then Classic dies as well. If Modern dies (“dies” here meaning “becomes completely unpopulated”) because people leave BFA for Classic…then why would Classic die? Blizzard still has the same number of WoW players on their books, still paying the same subscription fee.
Again, I don’t expect this; I’m just puzzled by the logic here.
On day 1 there should be a player-created group of public world channels:
/LFGlow
/LFGmid
/LFGhigh
They could cover 3 level brackets of instances and could be used anywhere at any time.
Alternatively blizzard could create them as world channels you could toggle.
Don’t play then, you either want it or you don’t, vanilla is not for you, simple.
I honestly don’t think this will be an issue. A huge portion of the Classic player base isn’t playing retail at all, so the poaching/leeching population concern isn’t really as big is you might think.
Second, for those of us who DO play retail, most of us intend to continue with both.
If Classic truly takes off like so many of us want it to, it might be an issue then, but I think you’re conflating a few things that don’t really go together.
1.) I raided in Vanilla. Two nights per week was the commitment. Are you playing retail two nights per week? Then Classic will not be too hardcore for you.
2.) If you were in an unforgiving hardcore guild in Vanilla, simply pick a family-friendly or hardcore casual guild in Classic. The attitudes are more relaxed. No one will dock your DKP for missing a night. The rules there are generally, “If you signed up, show up, and if you have to cancel for valid reasons, just let us know an hour before meet up time so we can pull in an alternate.” If you want to play Classic, play Classic. It’s not too hardcore for you.
3.) If Classic is successful enough to affect the population on retail servers, it will be because Classic is more fun to play. So just join them.
