I have been told it is possible but how does one mailan item that is bound to account from an alliance toon to Horde toon … inthis case both are on the US server and both are on the realm Steamwheedle Cartel.
As long as nothing else is attached in the mailbox like gold or non-account bound items, it should go no problem.

Just a case say I am mailing from Horde toon Hildr to say another character on another realm I would say for instance Nabiki-Echo Isles.
I’ve mailed benthic gear from my horde characters on Greymane to my Alliance character on Bonechewer. When you type in the recipents name it will pop up name-realm. Don’t worry it won’t mail account bound items to anyone else. It was an instant transfer too.

Can mail across your entire battle net account but not to or from one that is banned or suspended. You also can no longer mail account bound pets that are in their cage form. Those are so rare now that the events that give them out simply make them go to you without having the cage and they are soubound when they do go to your personally now.
Didn’t do a good job of describing it but yea that’s about it.
Type in charactername-server (example for me Juuhachigou-Tichondrius) and mail items that say “Bound to Account.”. It works to any toon as long as its on your account.

for example i want to send my new horde characters some bags and some gold from my alliance charcters some of which i’ve had over 10 years
Gold no, bags for the most part no. I believe there was an account bound bag but not 100% sure.
But yes any item that has the tag of being account bound can be send despite faction.

Seems very unfair that players with friends can move stuff via the neutral auction houses and players that have no in game associates may not.
But what is the reason that blizz won’t let you send things directly or purchase them off the AH if the characters are not of the same faction?
The prohibition seems to serve no logical purpose.

You can send BoA items across servers. Just type in the characters name and realm

or if you have an addon like TSM you choose alt, then select its name…
