Mail armor needs a new class. Hunter and Shaman fantasy too specific

The 7th Legion soldier types

  • Use mail armor
  • Don’t have pets (This is important, I really can’t get behind the “Oh, I have a tamed animal” fantasy of hunters)
  • Use guns/bows or swords/lances and sometimes shields

Can we get this class? As a meleeDPS/rangedDPS/Tank? You can throw in some kind arcane magic (like a spellblade/spellarcher/spellshield) if you “have to make it more interesting”

Mail could really use a class that isn’t so…specific as shaman or hunter. A nice, general "spellfighter type of class that would fit on multiple races would be a nice edition

Grenadier, Riflemen ??

Agent, Soldier, Fighter?
Knight? Add magic and Spellblade? I don’t know, but a nice “generic” class for mail wouls be nice.
I like classes where you can see anyone being really.
Mage, Priest, Rogue/Monk, Warrior, DK I suppose. Those without baggage.

Hunter has too much baggage with its whole “pets and animal friends!” shtick, which leads to things that don’t fit being shoehorned in. Like the elven farstriders

Better yet, remove Mail and let them use Leather.
Problem solved on the class balancing side.

There’re plenty of threads all over GD that touches on the subject but I’m going to be different that the usual “Tinker” talk.

I’ve always leaned towards a Gunslinger/dual-wielding pistol class, though I’m not sure how well it’ll translate into a tab-target game; such a class is usually fun and found with an action combat game. Pure ranged - no pets.

I’ve played a gun mage class with elemental projectiles, a gunner class with alternating projectile types for different styles of attack.

Those are just off the top of my head.

Eh, the dual weilding part is unnecessary. A simple Ranger/spearman/shieldman class without having pets shoehorned in would be wonderful.

Using elemental/arcane peojectiles like some kind of war mage would be great if it needed some kind of gimmick though.

Deep enough (thanks to mage lore) to give it something good, but not-specific enough to make you wonder “Why is (race) doing this?”

Classic hunter…

Or simply switch Hunter to Leather and Shamans to plate.

That has pets though.

Tinker is the best fit.

You can go without pets as well…but yeah I usually do have a pet around while I deliver my killing blow to my enemies with my 2 handed weapon!

Let’s make another leather user!

Best fit would probably had been a “Runemaster” type character instead of the DHs. For all intent and purpose, Vengeance DH is a Legion-themed version of that.

I don’t hate the Tinker idea that keeps getting thrown around but i have a strong feeling it won’t be really that popular. Historically “engineer” type characters aren’t, i mean people still whine about SV Hunters and there’s aspects of that there.

Plus they would most likely be heavily tied to some of the more lighthearted races in the game (Gnome/Goblin), exactly like the Monks who are also not very popular.

My vote goes toward Samurai.

It really isn’t. They don’t have mechanical pets either. They aren’t riding mechs.
Additionally, tinker has the same problem I want to avoid: It’s really specific.
WoW needs a new less specifc classes. Not more.

I can feel Blizzard wracking their heads for this one somehow.

Nah give us tinkers

You’re basically describing a marksman hunter.

Tinker class takes away from no one, uses intellect mail and ranged weapons

So a BM Hunter with stationary pets? Doesn’t Demo already fulfill that?

That’s what i mean, there’s not a huge about of gameplay niches that aren’t already covered by now. Game has 36 specs.

There’s already some overlaps amongst them (Havoc DH and WW being the most egregious one, Destro Lock and Arcane Mage being another example).

Marksman hunters use shields, melee weapons, and aren’t still themed around nature for some reason?

You got me on ranged weapons though, but hunters in general have a monopoly on those.

Tinker and goblin alchemist are only hero units from warcraft 3 not represented through a class.

Tinker deserves to be added

We have Engineering and Alchemy as professions though.

Adding a class just for the sake of adding it doesn’t do anything for the game, which is basically what happened with DHs.

If you guys can figure truly new and interesting mechanics to give them that won’t break the game for an expansion or two until Blizzard figure its balancing, by all means shoot ideas.

But adding a class just to represent blanket themes is just pointless.
