Mail armor is pretty bad. It should be merged with plate

In classic and TBC there was a lot of overlap with mail and plate armor. To this day however most mail sets especially non class sets look really bland or awkward. I think the armor system should be reworked into 3 categories. Heavy (Mail and Plate), Medium (Leather) and Light (cloth). I feel like the existence of mail as a separate armor type is archiac and no longer needed in the modern game. It’s severely lacking from only having 2 classes for the entire existence of the game and I struggle to find have decent gear on mail wearers. Light/Cloth armor would have the least amount of classes but it has so many options that I don’t think that’s a super significant problem.

It really bugs me that we finally get a new mail class but it doesn’t wear armor. Is that just like a big FU to shamans and hunters and their mail collections?

The Evokers wear armor, mail armor. It’s just not always visible apparently. They’ve released pictures of them wearing armor, in their human form or whatever they’re calling it.

What’s funny in some other games, cloth is not considered armor. It’s Unarmored, such as the Elder Scrolls and D&D.

So Plate is heavy, Mail is medium, Leather is light, and cloth is unarmored.

They prolly do that because cloth isn’t armor. FOOLS!

First, I disagree mail looks bland. Second, I think watching hunters and shaman running around in full plate armor would look bad.

Mechanically the armour system works just fine. They could ease up on transmog restrictions, though.

D&D more so just throws stuff into heavy, medium, or light on the whim of the designers.

Chain mail is heavy armour, half plate is medium armour, padded armor is cloth light armour, etc.

I dunno, I think my outfit right now looks pretty nice.

Demonhunters should have been a mail class, would have given some much needed love to the mail armor sets and would have balanced out the class/armor class ratio

They should have just made an Ogre Neutral race and created a “stone” armor category.

Just advocate for removal of all transmog restrictions. Win/win for everyone, and not just mail wearers.

Regardless of what could be done with the armor system, i think some of the restrictions in terms of transmog should be dropped. For example, i think Warriors, Paladins & DKs should have the ability to also transmog Mail Armor. Especially since a lot of that fits their themes.

The same for Hunters and Shamans. These two should be able to transmog leather. Especially since a lot of the armor that fits their class fantasy is leather. There’s a lot of Ranger/Trapper type armor which fits the Hunter look perfectly but they can’t even use it which is disappointing.

Because then people would complain that they couldn’t even bother make mail look good on the new race.

I would rather them just make nicer looking mail sets. They do have a few so I know they can do it.

I agree.

Yes, because when I think of an agile, acrobatic, ninja-like being who uses gymnastics as a weapon, I think of loud, clunky, and heavy chainmail!

…wait.

IMO hunters should be leather before becoming plate (in a hypothetical where mail armor type is removed)

Wish blizz would just design better sets for hunters, shaman sets are usually quite nice but the hunter sets are regularly lacking and with only 2 classes wearing mail atm mog opportunities are scarce.
