Is Magi’s Spark damage capped? It used to copy the damage of the ability perfectly, but not anymore. I can’t find any patch notes on it either.

Text from image:
20:13:07> [Your] [Arcane Barrage] hit [Broodkeeper Diurna] 1,040,070 Arcane. (Critical)
20:13:07> [Your] [Magi’s Spark Echo] hit [Broodkeeper Diurna] 256,575 Arcane.
The talent states that 100% of the damage will be copied (one from Arcane Blast, Missile Volley and One from Arcane Barrage, then detonate a 4th one for a “fixed” damage.)
The talent is not working. If you go to WoWhead:
https://www.wowhead.com/spell=454016/magis-spark#changelog
The old change log said it was 25% of damage, and that is what it appears to be hitting for, but the latest changes say 100%, so something is not mathing up.

Hmm, it looks like it just echoes the base damage of each spell and doesn’t factor in things that increase its damage further like Nether Precision, Arcane Bombardment, Aether Attunement, etc. Abilities that copy damage have always been wonky about calculating the exact amount. I think they intentionally mess around with the formula to prevent any double dipping and god knows what else goes on in the background too. Either that or the tooltip is just incorrect.
The spell details list out this:
Effect #1 Apply Aura: Dummy<small>
Value: 25
PVP Multiplier: 1
Server-side script</small>
Does this mean that in PvP it’s only 25% effective?
Could it possibly be hitting the target as if it was flagged for PvP for some reason?
That’s all I got.
Where did you get that from? The spell on WoWhead lists:
Apply Aura: Dummy
Value: 100
PVP Multiplier: 1
Server-side script
It is curious that a 25% is being applied for PvP (and if it is based off of base damage or off the modifiers with crit and damage boosts).
A fun spell in concept, but it seems buggy and poor in execution. How do you balance such a spell? The duplicate nature of it seems to pay homage to Terragossa’s legendary staff.
I had to go back and look, but I pulled it from one of these three listings.
https://www.wowhead.com/spell=453912/magis-spark
https://www.wowhead.com/spell=453898/magis-spark
https://www.wowhead.com/spell=453911/magis-spark
All of their tooltips list 100%, but the Effect #1 modifier shows 25%. And yes, it says for PvP, but your log is showing 25%, and this is the closest thing to compare it with. It is bugged after all!
With so many Magi’s Sparks listed on Wowhead, I had no way of telling which one is the “true” one. There’s more than just these ones, but they all showed vastly different information.

It appears there are several components to the spell.
https://www.wowhead.com/spell=453912/magis-spark
- Deals with Arcane Blast
https://www.wowhead.com/spell=453898/magis-spark
- Deals with Arcane Missiles
https://www.wowhead.com/spell=453911/magis-spark
- Deals with Arcane Barrage
Each of them have two builds in common that have a 25% echo (should be 100% echo) and 150% detonate (should be 400% detonate)
|Magi’s Spark|11.0.0 (Tue Jul 23 2024) Build 54935|
|Magi’s Spark|11.0.0 (Tue Jul 23 2024) Build 54774|
Which, leads me to believe that build:
|Magi’s Spark 11.0.0 (Tue Jul 23 2024) Build 55185|
Was never implemented, or something to that effect. Further concern is I am wondering if the detonate is also at 150%, when it is meant to be at 400%.
I really hope this gets read by Blizzard. I put it in the BUG Forums, but it went without reply.
Such a cool spell, definitely needs to be fixed though.

Ah I see now! I was wondering why that spell in particular showed up with each of the arcane spell icons.
Yeah looks like we’re on the right track. I hope this is considered a bug and gets fixed. That’s some major damage to be leaving off the table.

Ok something just happened and I don’t know how or what is going on…
Check this out - https://i.imgur.com/BEHvC7b.png
At first, I thought maybe the crit damage from your screenshot wasn’t being accounted for, so I was sitting at a lvl 70 Test Dummy lobbing a Magi and 1 Barrage and seeing Magi Spark damage was at 50% each time, and Improved Touch of the Magi only accumulating 13%. I was doing this over and over again trying to a get a crit. (18% crit here )
Then out of nowhere, without changing any talents or gear, the Echo started hitting for 100% AND Touch was accumulating 25%! This is what it was supposed to be doing all along. Not only did I get a crit finally, but it was at 100% as well.
What in the what? Did some miracle hotfix just come through or something??

I need to replicate your success tomorrow! I hope there was some hot fix pressed through!
I’ve even tried changing talents before and I was never hitting 100%.
Latet today, I will test out the “hot fix”! You made my night, cheers !
Logged back in just now and the “fix” is still in place. Hope it’s not a fluke. There’s no hotfix notes about it either.
Tested this on 5 with just barrage. I am getting roughly 50%.
This was tested on mobs, and not the dummy.
Hmm, I just tried on some random world mobs in the Ohn’ahran Plains, and it’s hitting 100% for me still. The thing is, I don’t even know what fixed it, I just kept doing the same exact thing over and over again and suddenly it decided to start working.
Just was testing your Macro out from your other thread and noticed that my Magi’s Spark Echo is back to doing 50% damage instead of 100%. This is ridiculous.

I haven’t played a BG in a long time, but I’ll probably hit you up cause I miss PVP!
- Mage
- Arcane
- Fixed an issue that caused Touch of the Magi and Magi’s Spark to deal more damage than intended.
Booo
I wonder what this is applied to? Legacy? Current? PvP?
Fuuuu!!! The tooltip is unchanged, so I’m guessing it was the millions of damage in Legacy content…
