Magical studies

Trying to come up with some backstory for a human mage, in his early 30s, born in Stormwind.

Do we know how long it takes for a mage to graduate? Is the tower with the portal room in Stormwind really a magic school? You study only magic or are there other fields like History and Statecraft for the nobility?

Dalaran was under a bubble for how long again?

Off the top of my head, I can’t recall any instance of an exact, or even approximate, time for a mage to ‘graduate’. Stormwind’s mage tower does seem to be a legitimate place of education, however, especially now with there being a couple places depicting apprentices being taught. It’s a bit unclear if the place is actually meant to function as a school, or if it’s just a de-facto hub that otherwise independent instructors use for its resources and location. It’s arguably impossible to tell just how much magic education pretty much anywhere is even standardized. One could of course assume any explicitly named academy to be such, but again the details are still open to speculation. I imagine this would also be the case for independent mentorships as well.

Assuming my skimming through the Warcraft Wiki page on Dalaran was enough, it seems that Dalaran was like that from a few years after the Third War up until the start of the Nexus War, as the Nexus War was seemingly a major reason for teleporting the city to float over Northrend in the first place. Going by an old timelime of now questionable accuracy, that was approximately just short of a decade, give or take a few years.

There is nothing keeping you from becoming a wizard via solo study.

Mad scientist rp is the best rp.

The Mages College is a scam. They just want Alliance government kickbacks, not to make you a good wizard.

I’ve heard of this really great place called Scholomance actually, its a family run institution too! I’ve heard tuition is pretty cheap.
