Tonight I went to SW to do some item cleanup and then go to sleep… but I could not.
There was a big translucent blue dragon hovering over SW, smaller blue dragons flying everywhere, strips of runes and other luminous shapes in the sky, dark clouds, and to boot there was the most intense rain I ever saw over SW.
I thought it was like a pre-announcement event for Dragonflight, which would have been awesome. Later I knew that happens when a particular quest chain is completed. However, visually it was awesome all the same. It lasted quite long, too.
I was flying among the blue dragons all the time. One of my best moments in any game.

Sometimes I forget how many experiences in game are still new to someone, and how easy it is to ignore them after a while even if they’re pretty cool.

Oh, I see the achievement points. lol
But I do see people in chat from time to time ask what’s going on whenever someone initiates that. Reminded me all the same.
Sometimes I’ll remake a Draenei just to do the starting area and soak in the music and ambiance out there. Always takes me back since that’s where I started in 07.

I feel the same way about certain vanilla areas. It is kind of a shame they haven’t added them back in the same way they retained other areas. I always hold out false hope they will.
It would be nice to have a throwback starting zone option, but maybe a pipe dream at this point.
That was the best part of Classic was just leveling up through those zones for the nostalgia. I guess that’s always an option, but not if you want to have the exp on a new retail alt. Ah well.

It was the end of the Firelands legendary staff quest line. There are always plenty of people curious about it when it happens because they’d never seen it before.

I miss the classic leveling experience of being just a little bit lost. Constantly being pointed where to go feels too scripted. Actually finding a new quest to do was part of the adventure. I had a pretty set route on how to do Barrens back in the day, I was probably 5+ alts in when I found that harpy quest up in the tower.
