Mages with Tailoring

currently I have been leveling alchemy and herbalism because I know its very nice having flasks/potions etc to use on myself as well as sell very easily throughout the game. however the BiS chest for the first couple phases comes from tailoring. (robe of archmage) but is that one item worth making the switch. I know a lot of ppl say level tailoring until you get BiS then drop it for alch/herb but that just seems like a waste of time. opinions ?

I level’d as tailoring, crafted my Robes of the Archmage and dropped tailoring.

I’m keeping Engineering and Enchanting as my 2 main professions.
Engineering is just too nice to pass. Too many cool things for both PvE and PvE.

The chest will be BiS until until Phase 4. That’s like 6+ months from now. 100% REALLLLYYYYYY worth getting it.

Tailoring is extremely easy to level. If anything I’d drop Herbalism. That’s also easy to level just traveling around, no “buy mats” to level it up again if you want it back.

The amount of people on each server is huge. Mats and the AH prices are incredibly low.

Going tailoring to get the chest is very worth your time. Gear drops that you will pick up from 40 man raids are a long term time investment. The tailoring chest is BIS up to BWL lvl gear.

Pushing tailoring up to 300 and farming the chest design or buying it on the AH/trade for 200g is very worth your time. After you make the chest drop tailoring if you want something like a gathering or alchemy.

It’s a great robe, but really it’s not far and away better than the Robes that drop from Ras in Scholo. A difference of 1% spell crit, -3 spell power, and the on-use effect (which probably won’t have much use considering how fast bosses die).

Ok maybe I’ll drop herbalism for tailoring then because I’ve already leveled alchemy up to about 150 and don’t want to drop it at this point especially since I’ve already been making decent coin from it. If tailoring is super worth the items then I guess that would validate it enough to use it

You can do it either way. I levelled tailoring first, made enough on bags and cloth and skinning to get epic mount, crafted robe when it dropped, and now working enchanting. Which complements tailoring anyway.

Or like my priest friend, go double gathering, make gold, then switch to tailoring when your class pattern drops. Either way is fine, Classic will be here a long time.

Where does the robe pattern drop from

Pyromancers in Lower Black Rock Spire. (orc duders at the lower level of the instance right before spider boss)

There are I think 3-4 in each run.
I believe the robe is a 10%ishhhhhh drop chance.
Not that hard to farm if you are chain running it for the Pants + Gloves for your pre-raid/raid gear anyway.

You’re probably better off farming with a group of friends/guilds as it’s likely a 100g+ drop and if it’s a pug, they might want to roll against you.
Or at least ask ahead of time if they are cool with letting you keep it when it drops.

Just to be clear, I was a little confused with professions in classic. I can level up tailoring to 300, get the BIS robe, then drop tailoring, pick up engineering instead and keep the robe?

So long as it doesn’t say “requires tailoring xxx”, then yeah. Engineering items require a certain level of engineering level to use, tailoring items (often, if not always) don’t. Instead they’re just BoP, so the tailor cannot sell them.

It’s just that those professions are a pain to level up, so most don’t do so solely for the item and then drop the prof.

level a 2nd char to 35 and make it your alch

Altoholic here. That’s what I’m doing.

Mage - Tailoring & Enchanting
Rogue - Skinning & Leatherworking

Those are my 2 mains. The rest might be level 12 or 13 for awhile but here they are anyways.
Druid - Herbalism & Alchemy
Hunter - Mining & Engineering (for arrows & bullets)
2nd Rogue - Mining & Engineering (because I hear Engineering is good for Rogues)
Priest - I don’t know what to do with my Priest yet :frowning:
Warlock - Herbalism & Alchemy
Paladin - Mining & Blacksmithing

I didn’t know what to give my Warlock & Priest for professions. The only reason my Warlock & Druid have the same professions is because that’s how I did it in Legion for my Night Elf Druid & Blood Elf Warlock. All I do know is that Tailoring & Enchanting was a pain to level in Legion. So I don’t want my Priest to do the same professions as my Mage.

The robe is BoP. :frowning: I guess my Warlock & Priest alts will just have to wear something else then.

I made My robes …I have not drooped tailoring because It did take time to level it and seems like a waist to just drop it lol

What are these 2 robes called? Are they robes or patterns for tailors? If they are patterns, are they BOP or BOE? I’m asking for my warlock and priest alts who won’t be doing tailoring and enchanting as their professions.

Freezing Lich Robe is the one I was talking about. It’s only good for Frost Mages.
