Mages used to be able to 1v1 every class

Ever since WOD All these melee classes are unkitable, you have no stun and u lose to all of them.

Sounds like you have a code 18 issue. Its at 18" from the screen. Yes melee slowly got more and more movements but mages are still far from losing that much. The good mages have adapted and evolved their style. You should too.

It is somewhat of an issue, particularly for Fire. Shimmer, Sheep, Frost Nova are your friends. Even Invisibility can be useful.

I play Arcane so it’s not quite as bad for me. Slow, Greater Invis, Mass Invis, Frost Nova, Poly, Shimmer, Displacement, and Chrono Shift.

Frost of course has some decent PVP and regular talents for snaring and slowing.

While I don’t recommend it necessarily the Ripple in Space Essence can provide even more movement utility. Arcane Mages can easily use a combo of it with Shimmers/Displacement to move a long distance and really mess with melee opponents (especially in a 1v1 scenario).

I won a lot no problem in wod

Wasnt too bad in legion

Bfa is where the 1v1 issue kinda came up, arcane WAS the best cuz quick thinking but idk about now

Mage was not intended to be a 1v1 class. It is a support class.

If you want a 1v1 caster class I recommend a warlock instead

Why was mage the best 1v1 class or close to all the way until MOP then?

Frost mage was great at 1v1 all the way up until they removed Deep Freeze.
Fire was good at 1v1 in the short period it had Deep Freeze.

Conclusion, mage needs Deep Freeze (at least frost does). But then RMP would be OP, so I guess we are stuck sucking due to arena.

Deep Freeze was OP but also awesome. I’m honestly surprised it’s not a PvP talent that shares a DR with all other stuns. Or stuns for a shorter period or something.

Lol mage has been a premiere 1v1 class up until legion, where they shafted almost every caster into a support role.

They transformed frost into a boring, pve-playstyle, dampener throughput spec with much of its control tools pruned (imp cs, deep freeze, frostjaw). Sure it’s still strong, but for all the wrong reasons: its tanky and has an oppressive slow that is brainlessly applied.

The finesse of the class is gone. And yeah they are arguably one of the worst 1v1 classes in the game atm (at least the non-arcane specs)

Where did you get that idea? I seem to remember when hunters and warlocks were support classes…

Mages and rogues are the original pure DPS powerhouses. They were never, and are not now, support classes. Victims of increasingly poor class design, balance, and wonky metas? Yes.
