Mages got buffed!

Not sure if anyone has heard yet, but mages got buffed <3

There’s literally another thread with the exact same name minus the exclamation mark.

The “!” does make it pop though, and considering how long we’ve been waiting to see anything in the patch notes it is rather exciting.

I literally don’t care and I will LITERALLY spread my excitement about mages finally being looked at even if its just a simple % increase.

Do we need a complete rework – YES

Did we at least need a DPS increase – YES!!

If anyone says this isn’t good news or that it’s a net zero gain based on upcoming tier set, THEY’RE SIMMING THEMSELVES INTO AN IRRELEVANT DATA INTERPRETATION. This is a +++.

Well, you did ask if someone had heard it yet, so…

That’s fine, but let us rejoice at the fact that they are paying attention even if they are reluctant to pay attention.

The number of times mages have been buffed since launch makes you really wonder if there’s something rotten underneath…

Why are you still wondering when most are already certain at this point?

Oh, we know. Or, at least most of us here should all be coming to the same conclusion.

Mage, mostly as a whole, seems to just be a class that Blizzard just cannot place into a blueprint even if they tried. It’s just number tweaks to compensate for whatever it is the larger issue may be. We will get this tweak now, and it’ll feel alright, until it just fundamentally doesn’t anymore due to the nature of the game overtime, and it’s the cycle.

What has always baffled me is why they refuse to communicate. We have already done the work for them through our extensive feedback laying out exactly what is wrong with each spec and how to best fix it. Why don’t they (1) just do what we’re telling them will make us happy or (2) come out and tell us why they aren’t willing to do it?

If they’re refusing to listen to our feedback that can only be attributed to one of two things. Either they’re simply not seeing the feedback at all or they do but they disagree with it. If it’s the former, shame on them for not doing their job and lying about it. If it’s the latter then just tell us why!

This isn’t 2000 anymore. Players have access to extensive statistics too. We know which classes are struggling and underperforming. We also know which ones are not being played. The numbers don’t lie, there is clearly a fundamental issue with Mages and they need to face reality and address it sooner rather than later. The longer they delay facing the music the worst it will get.

To quote a friend, “Blizzard can now spend the next eight years trying to repair the damage they’ve done in the past four.” Coincidentally, in that same timeframe the minimum bar for maximum M+ rewards doubled. I’d break out my newspaper clippings, push pins, and yarn to try and thread this back to the central ‘?’ on my thinking board, but we all know what’s really going on here.

I tried to play Fire Mage at the start of this expansion and installing WA to manage Pyroclasm procs killed it entirely. They buffed slightly but continued to not see why Flamestrike or Living Bomb was filling a niche. Another crazy loophole is how Fire gets more mastery from Fire Blast juggling than they can through actual stats. It just seems like glaring design holes (mostly injected via Shadowlands conduits and legendaries)… and they will just keep cranking that knob instead of fixing the core problems. I’m not sure that’s a good move given it’s taken this many years for Retribution to be rebalanced (and the justifications they used about Retribution’s rework seemed to be a collection of talking points aggregated from these forums).

And don’t even get me started on Rune of Power…

I feel the buff was substantial and I feel like blizzard has been doing a good job on focusing on specific classes each patch and the mage will get its turn. BUT be realistic, no one from blizzard officially ever asked for mage talent feedback for this patch, we as the community made threads and piled it on, to expect anything major would be out of turn.

Far from it. They are doing a good job at ignoring specific classes and while the buffs were definitely a start and had some good stuff in them, it’s also a far cry from substantial. A few %s here and there doesn’t suddenly fix the class from problems pointed out over half a year ago.

Your right, the damage buffs don’t fix the talents. I look forward to the blue post around mage talent feedback, in the mean time, fire looks to be in a good spot for the season

As long I can beat Shadow Priests I’m happy.
From my pov, The fact Spriest do so much damage while their healing specs are lacking just contribute to the healers shortage we witness

Lol, ain’t that the truth!

Literally why I gave up on M+. The M+ achievements alone went from having to time one 10+ in Legion, to having to time ALL of them in BfA, to having to time ALL of them TWICE in SL. And the level of difficulty has also progressively gotten more overtuned for the same reward. They’re doing everything they can to prolong the time players spend chained to the treadmill and it’s driven me from the game almost completely.

Their healing specs aren’t even lacking though considering Holy is one of the strongest raid healers right now and Discipline is somewhere around solid A tier spec in M+. They might not be the best healers right now, it’s just that Shadow is very strong on top of giving PI to someone else.

Great. Now make them actually fun to play.
