Mages Feel too Squishy

Is it just me or do mages feel too squishy? It seems ok when healers are around and in arenas, I mean I survive sometimes then. But I was outcast by a paladin in a duel who kept hiding behind a pillar. I was one shot by a DK in open-world PVP, it’s an FPS game for a hunter vs me. Maybe I suck, but I feel like all we got is a weak cannon and worse than glass, instead of a glass cannon. Maybe I just suck too shrug

Every heal/dps feels too squishy except maybe paladins and warlocks, health pools are just too low.

I’d suggest making use of Ice Block and make sure you have it talented to heal you for 80% health.

I use ice block, but I feel like it just prolongs the inevitable. While I’m healing to 80% they get a full heal because I’m not dishing damage. Or in the wild, they can just eat food while I’m in there. The whole reason I hit the oh crap button was I was getting demolished.

You’ll really need to rely on your CC talents and Shimmer to stay alive as a Mage when there are no healers around.
Having said that, I don’t play PvP, so…

Mage can be tanky, but it relies on active defense. To achieve that result, you have to use your defensive kit, and use it well.

I dont k ow whoch mage spec is ideal roght now but three things:

  1. DKs are good against casters
  2. In the right hands, mages are broken but
  3. Mage seems to have a high skill ceiling

I find caster defensives to be unbelievably complex and not fun at all

Which is why I’m a better warlock lol

Sounds like you’re a holy player hehehehe

“FPS”

Go fire and use your 10 micro cc’s against me to win

Keep in mind we are still early in the expansion with low resilience. It will get better.

I think you took a wrong turn at Albequerque, brother.

True. I should probably pay attention to categories when searching popular topics lol.

But regardless of expansion mages have always been the squishy class. Warlocks are tankier.

Warlocks are more passively tanky, but a well played mage is unkillable in retail. We have a 30 second CD overshield, a 2 minute 20% DR, a 70% DR with 80% HP heal (or ice block), a 60% DR also 2 minute CD that also makes us invis, alter time which rests health AND blink/shimmer, fire has a cheat death and frost has ice cold/ice block reset. It’s nutty. Oh, also…shifting power reduces the CD on all of fhe above.

It’s not just you. Do what I did and play the better version of Mage: Destro Warlock.

Mage"s defensive toolkit is completely proactive (except maybe Ice Block); if you are unable to hit your buttons before damage hits it will not go well for you. But mages who know how to hit their buttons can live forever.

It seems like most classes are squishy. Idk how people are doing 18s lmao. Should probably watch some of those streams.

I shouldn’t be getting smacked like this in 11s

damage midigation as a mage has always relied more on finesse, sadly.

Mages are basically immortal Gods when played correctly

Well, it’s actually been a long time since I PvPed on my Frost Mage and I have to say I was rockin it. So here goes. #1 sheep is your friend. #2 Make full use of the Los(Line of Sight mechanic. and last but not least, play to your stengths, in other words make your opponent want to run away. Your a toon that rocks fighting from a distance. You have a wide arsenal of a toolbox, make use of it all. Hope this helped you out. I just came back a couple months ago and still being in that since of freshness I dueled a Disc Priest and just about beat em lol. I’ll get there, it just takes practice. GL
