Mage, Warlock which to boost?

Should I boost a Mage or Warlock? I enjoy raiding some m+ and random pvp. Also soloing and questing

Which class fits best?

ive run with both, but more mage this expa. warlock is likely easier to quest/solo with due to voidwalker to tank for you. mage you need to be crafty to not be overwhelmed in some of the BFA content when soloing.

mage from what ive heard is better at M+s than lock. no idea on pvp, as i avoid it like the plague.

Mage with all your requirements

Mage is squishy with bad sustain but they have nice mobility and CC.

Warlock is a pet class but your mobility is bad in exchange for nice sustain. And a set of demons to support you in different ways.

This is just my take as a person who mostly plays Priest.

People complain about both but i never thought it was fair to call them braindead.

Can’t say about M+ and PVP since I’m a new 120 with bad gear but I can tell you that soloing and questing is super easy.

I play Demo and I have my little army of demons that do most of the job for me. I’ve seen mages running from elite mobs while I can easily take care of them by my own.

And a worgen as well! Your gear looks really nice on the worgen. Didn’t think I would be a fan of it but I am!

I was leaning towards gnome but may go worgen.

Being able to solo and not run away is huge for me. I would like to solo and quest happily without running away

only difference is soloing tbh. mages are squishy and must kite to stay alive if they can’t nuke it. locks can pet tank and have better defensives lack mobility though.

mages seem better overall in M+ consistently as well but you said “some m+” you should be able to get up to at least a +20 regardless of the class after that is when the specs that struggle tend to start falling off

if you hate running away then answer is clear - lock. as a mage kiting is a MUST you wont get very far if you tank all the hits especially in pvp. mages push out insane dmg though so it makes up for it as well.

Boost mage.

Levelling a destro warlock is way easier.

A hybrid will do better than a pure. Especially in BFA.

If you want the caster sauce, I would suggest a boomchicken or an elemental shaman (so long as you don’t care too much about theoretical performance).

The pure classes are a mistake this expansion.

I do love me some free mage food.

But the souls of the deceased baked into cookie form also does have its appeal.

:croissant:

As a hybrid, there are untracked benefits to a pure that aren’t shown. 1. you never think “ugh, I just just heal for faster queues.” You never get asked to heal, you’re never failing to maximize your utility to the same degree, and a Mage is a Shaman with better DPS.

Warlock is better for solo IMHO. You have a tank! Mage is pretty squishy if you’re… err… not good at kiting mobs lol

Utility wise i would say Warlock, since they have Summons, Fel Cookies, a Mid-battle Teleport and a Battle Ress

Mages have at best have a raid Buff and a Hero

But in terms of soloing content, i would say that Warlock wins since they have a pet that can tank for them, when i leveled both classes i was struggling a lot more with the mage to stay alive

  1. That’s not a benefit.
  2. Learn how to say ‘no’.
  3. Um…failing to utilize your utility to the same degree is very easy.
  4. I did quality my response with “as long as you don’t care about theoretical performance”, and it looks like I’m a patch behind on where I assumed ele was. Sims have it as the 2nd highest performing hybrid spec.

Pures this expansion get all of the disadvantages of being a pure, with none of the advantages of being a hybrid and then some of their disadvantages as well.

For example, if you want to trade specs as a pure you still get to deal with bad secondary stats just like a hybrid, and reforging costs just like a hybrid, and bad traits just like a hybrid. On top of that, it’s not like being a pure DPS actually buys you any performance on the meters (if you care about meters to track anything more than your own performance). Hybrid specs regularly surpass pure specs.

Finally, being a pure doesn’t buy you any stability. The top performing spec for your class is still going to change every single patch. On top of which, god help you if you have multiple specs that are performant because hybrid players will complain until the devs nerf one or more of them into the ground.

Being a pure buys you nothing. No quality of life. No performance. Nothing. At least playing a hybrid buys you options.

Seriously the only “advantage” to being a “pure” dps this expansion is that it’s easier to get all the essences available to you…

Dark Iron warlock so you can still use your mole machine as a ghetto mage portal.

Not really. I mean, you’re going to be doing all of that content repeatedly anyway. And if you’re not, you probably didn’t need the essence in the first place unless you’re a completionist.

Stop crying and roll an alt?
