Is ilvl important here? im using the 226 anima gear and can only get the boss to 80%? im currently doing “Agatha”. I watched a guide and they said ilvl doesnt matter only gems/trinkets but im been fighting her for a long damn time and cant even get her passed 80% do to the imps and shields. I know the fights ive done it in legion but man i dont understand why im doing little to no dmg.
It’s all scaled down so it doesn’t if you’re wearing Shadowlands gear. With that said, you can get a lot of distance with older gear since it tends to have more sockets and you can get some enchants that scale better. Plus, some of the old trinkets are disproportionately good, again due to how scaling works.
Wowhead has a guide on gearing.
So long as the item is around/above 45 ilvl, then no ilvl doesn’t matter.
It can be more difficult if you don’t have gear with appropriate secondary stats for your character, though. On the other hand, it can also be a good deal easier if you farm for lower level gear with a lot of sockets to slam secondary/main stat gems into (Siege of Orgrimmar and Throne of Thunder are the go-to raids for that, iirc). But that’s time-consuming and expensive.
From what I’ve heard, grinding Legion raids and hoping for a bonus socket is better. SoO and ToT gear has a lot of sockets but gear doesn’t scale up so you lose out on some stats due to the lower ilvl.
Someone did it on class trials
Item level doesn’t matter, just a matter of scaling.
Older gear a’la Siege of Orgrimmar, old enchants gems etc just help the player a lot more than post level 50 stuff that get scaled down.
It is true that they’re lower ilvl, but there are a lot of pieces that come with guaranteed multiple sockets. Just depends on how much you’re willing to spend on the good gems to put in them.
This is way harder than the original. In basic WQ gear I made it to Krull easily in the original fight, it was the Krull fight itself that gave me issues. I can’t even get past the mini boss because my dps is too low to kill anything quickly, and the longer the mini boss is alive the more stuff he spawns and you get too far behind. I spend too much time on adds because I cant freaking kill them quick enough. They did a poor job on trying to emulate the original fight, because it’s not even close in difficulty. All the nerfs to vengeance dps has made it an impossible fight.
Edit: Having to rely on cheesy gear tricks just to beat a frigging mini boss is stupid.
yeah im having the same issue on mine i dont do enough dps to kill all the adds cause she spans 4 imps plus the 2 that heal plus the aoe imp at the same time and its freaking frustrating
I can’t do it on this character. I still can’t get past varias or whatever his name is this time around. Nothing is dying as fast as it should. I’ll try on another to see if it’s different. Probably not, but I read that mage is easy.
I tried on my 52 Ret Pally. Got turned into paste in very short order.
It…shouldn’t be that hard. I mean, really. If it really boils down to getting sets of a certain level of gear, with gems, to cheese the level squish and whatnot…then pass. That’s really stupid design.
Edit: After reading the WoWHead guide (which is awesome), I feel more strongly that the Mage Tower design is complete bs. You shouldn’t have to game the system to go through it.
How to get ilvl 50 gear:
- Check your dungeon journal for BC and Wrath normal dungeon gear. You can run the dungeons that drop the pieces you need with a level 45 in Chromie time in party sync, or carry a level 45 in Chromie time through the dungeon. The 45 will get gear that is ilvl 50 and can trade it to you.
- Legion dungeon and raid gear is normally 50, but can sometimes warforge to 60 and/or have a socket. Other sources of Legion gear are dauntless tokens (purchased on the Broken Shore using nethershards for currency) and relinquished gear (purchased on the Vindicaar for veiled argunite.
Other sources include old crafted gear. Whatever you do, you want the best itemization you can find. Substituting crit-haste gear for vers mast if you’re doing the guardian tower is a net loss when there is versatility gear with sockets available.
I feel like Blizz shoulda just used templates or something. I find it really weird that a purely skill based challenge can be made easier with gear. Not to mention templates would also just make it easier to balance
Watching old videos of how it used to be is just more proof that Blizzard messed up. Seeing these guys in worse gear than I had beat varias pretty easily, and the adds died in seconds. You didn’t have to spend 7 or 8 seconds on one in most cases. It’s like this time around you have to save all your damage cooldowns for adds instead of the elite. Varas died just after the second round of adds usually. All I can do is interrupt his heal, and then kill adds while never getting the chance to hit him.
I want to see a dev do this in normal shadowlands gear to prove it’s doable.
I’m doing the tank challenge in normal shadowlands gear, and I can get to the second phase and get him pretty close, but I do so little damage throughout the entire thing it becomes quite hard. I’m looking at 5 infernals at once and then kruul himself with his stacking annihilate and my little damage.
I watched someone else attempt with gear specifically for the challenge and they dealt with adds easier than me.
I’ve tried around 11 times now and since I’m getting to kruul and almost beating him, I think I’ll be able to eventually. But cmon Blizzard. This is stupid.
I did this back in legion, in legion gear. If this gonna be back for good this needs to be scaled to current Ilvl, I honestly do not want to go farm old dungeons and raids for gear but i guess I have no choice cause this about impossible in shadowlands gear and having all these passives and borrowed power disabled just adds to annoyance, just have a template that applies to our character or something lol
Hang on a second. Is it true that artifact appearances still can’t be had if you complete this challenge? If that’s true then there’s zero point in doing this.
You can get a Fel werebear but other than that the rewards are armor sets and a unique mount if you complete all of them.
Yep, that makes not going through it an easy decision. Thanks. I Just looked at all the rewards, there isn’t anything I want.
Just need to learn to time your cds for the mechanics. As long as you use cds reactively and make sure to focus on the mechanics you will clear it. It’s been a couple months but if I remember right I saved my WW for when the pack of imps around her spawned and saved my fear/slow for when the duo heal imps spawned. Generally the hardest part of the fight for fury was just figuring out the rotation I would pop my cooldowns since the fight is super scripted.
I did it on my lvl 50 ret. I didn’t bother with any special enchants, gems or gear and was able to clear it just fine. The biggest upgrades anyone can get for these challenges is leveling to 60 because for quite a few classes you get some major spell upgrades - the difference of frost mage at 60 and frost mage at 50 was the easiest fight to the hardest fight. If you’re upset about being unable to do it at 52 then go hit 60 and see how it goes with your max lvl spells. I did find Ret to be more of a mechanic check more than a dps check aside from the rune guys bubble you have to push through. The cleaving the 3 dudes really knocks down the fight pretty fast.
Ahh, so it’s just that easy, eh?
I love it when someone sweeps into a thread and tells everyone that is a piece of cake, and they just need to L2P.
At any rate, after having seen how overtuned it is, I won’t take another look until they revisit the Tower.
