Mage tower stuff

Can someone give me the rundown of what the Mage Tower is and what you get from it? (Didn’t play during MoP or Legion) Anything I missed out on?

Yes. Lots.

There were a set of challenges you could do, based on your class and spec. Completing a challenge unlocked the corresponding special appearance for your artifact. Sadly, you can no longer get the Mage Tower appearances.

You cant get the appearances anymore

It’s a solo scenario against various spec specific bosses along the lines of proving grounds.

Was hard for some easier for others, I took over 100 tries to get one of the bosses down, was worth it tho.

Edit: If you won you got some wicked cool eye candy that you can no longer get.

I got one of the appearances because one week I went in against Agatha, and she bugged so hard that her boulders didn’t spawn and she was swapping sides of the room completely out of sync with her imps so they had to run to her before they turned around and attacked.

Which made it a complete joke.

Some exclusives. But no worries. If Blizzard makes any challenges in the future you’ll be able to go for them.

The difference in difficulty was wild too. For instance, I lost count of how many tries it took for the Guardian appearance - many dozens at least. Then maybe 4 tries on my Feral. Still love that sparkly kitty though.

Beast Mastery was difficult until I got a random legendary drop that basically negated all mechanics. And the exact same challenge was an actual joke on my Disc priest, who for some reason was put into a DPS challenge that was tuned around very limited self-healing.

The Raistlin challenge was hard on my Frost mage but faceroll on Balance.

Etc, etc. Still very cool appearances and generally fun challenges.

I got Agatha on the first try with my Ele shaman. I was walking in to test the waters and see how hard it would be. This was coming off of killing Kruul on this toon though.

Kruul? Let’s not talk about Kruul. I honestly don’t remember anything about my successful attempt until I heard “No! This cannot be!” and saw that he was at 10% and I still had most of my cool downs.

If you had burst AoE. At the time burst cooldowns for outlaw were longer than the imp spawn. That’s what made that one hard. One of the recommended items was that legendary trink that spawned a giant fireball that was completely useless otherwise just because outlaw needed the cooldown.

The one for Sin was much easier.

Pretty sure I had a mini heart attack when he finally went down.

Agatha on Feral, UH, Ele and Fire: Enjoyable, cheeseable laid back content

Agatha on Outlaw and Fury: So you think you know your specs…

Agatha was more of a challenge on my fire mage, but really only because of the lack of recovery if hit by a meteor. Shaman can just buff that dent out with a healing surge. Also Chain Lightning is bae. Chain Lightning will always be bae.

I THINK I had prydaz or the leggo that shielded you after blink, but Agatha took me under 10 tries for Fire, under 5 for UH, 2 for feral, but a bit more for ele…largely attributed to the fact that I had not played Elemental ever until the challenge came up.

Ya, Agatha was a sweet fight for ele.

Now, on Fury…guuhhhhhh

Is there anything else that was missed besides the spec/artifact specific appearances? And what about the MoP mage tower?

MoP didn’t have a mage tower. It did introduce the role trials, which are still available. There isn’t much to get out of those other than a little skill validation and a title for reaching I think wave 30 in Endless mode.

If it makes you feel any better, Agatha was a complete joke even when she worked right.

As said above, not for outlaw rogues and fury warriors.

I never did Outlaw so I can’t speak for that. But I got the fury one and it was as easy as the rest of them.
