Not sure why but today I randomly thought about the Mage Tower, is it active and has anyone tried it? I know temporary powers like tier sets are disabled but Hero talents are evergreen so they should work… if the tower hasn’t been changed now may be the time to try? Or scaling may so bad that it is harder than ever.
I’ve been trying to clear MT with my Guardian Druid for a couple of days now. I’ve made about 40-50 attempts so far.
I’ve watched all the guides I can find on YouTube to make sure I’m not doing anything wrong. But I’m still struggling to complete it.
At this point, I can’t tell if it’s over tuned or I’m just bad. Probably both. Hehe.
If you’re up for a challenge, give it a shot. Good luck!
I finished all challenges in SL. It was HARD.
Not sure if its still hard, but its one of the more fun things this game has imo.
Some of the challenges are way easier than others. For example i bought a character boost to do the WW monk challenge. Without ever playing the class before I cleared it in 4 attempts, while the resto shaman challenge took over 100.
Mage Tower is always up and yes it is hard Some people say it’s easier/harder than Legion, but they are really too close in difficulty to argue over that. But you can do it!
I used this gearing guide, helped me a lot to get all the mogs and mount. It goes over gear, gems, consumables, all that good stuff.

- MT on its return in SL was very hard. Scaled up and lots of damage going out. You’d need to time/kick everything and also meet a DPS.
- Has become progressively easier in DF as we got SL legendaries turned into capstones which then worked in them.
- Probably one of the easiest they ever been with TWW stat stuff scaling OP.
The new Mage tower is harder than the original Mage Tower.
Anyone who say otherwise hasn’t actually done the original.
The first iteration was balanced around Mythic Tomb of Sargeras.
- LFR Antorus alone had much better gear than Mythic Tomb.
- We had two legendaries AND the Light and Shadow machine.
- Eventually we got Overpowered Artifacts from draining the Sword of Sargeras.
It was an absolute joke, I did every single challenge on every single spec before we even got Overpowered Artifacts. The hardest part was leveling my alts to max and not dieing of boredom, why? This is the same time they introduced scaling to leveling, nerfed heirlooms, and holy hell it was AWFUL.
My favorite part was doing the twins challenge. You know the one for Affliction, Shadow, and Balance?
So you had to burn down the Chaser twin, once you delt with him you could attack the Caster twin. You had to do this over ~3 phases and every new phase the Caster twin would gain a new mechanic, some would one shot you.
With LFR Antorus gear, the free legendary you get from Velen for killing LFR Argus, a crafted legendary for that armor type, I disintegrated that challenge.
Did you know you can do so much damage to the Caster twin you can completely skip all of his other phases? He can die on the first phase where he really doesn’t do much. I know this. Cause I did it. Three times.
lmao.
Yea but not everyome ran mt at the end of legion. Some of us did it when current.
Also , my GUESS is, because I havent done mt since SL, that mt now should be easier. The SL mt stripped you off any SL borrowed power. Not having covenants conduits and legendaries was trash. So much power was behind the SL systems that left your base spec feeling weak.
Now we have absolutely all our class and spec power with us. So it should be easier
It was at it’s hardest in Shadowlands. From what I understand Dragonflight was easier. I’d imagine with hero talents it’s much easier now but who knows…
I have my book and all my max level classes (From DF) have the sets so I have no real reason to try it but I am curious.
While i havent tried MT in a while, the absolutely easiest time was during the last few weeks in legion before it was going to go away forever.
I went in with LFR antoras gear, on classes i had barely played (like, leveled to max and then never touched again) in specs i hadnt ever done and basically just rolled through it ezpz. Didnt get all of them (never tried the healing one and some classes/spec i have 0 interest in playing so i didnt bother) but got pretty much all the ones i wanted that i thought were worth getting
At last check, it was overtuned to the point of near impossibility for many specs. There’s a lot of scaling issues with new TWW gear that have trivialized the challenge lately, although Blizzard has been taking steps to nerf those back into where they should be.
It depends. Some classes have it easier than others. For example, Arms Warr and Havoc DK have the same challenge but it is actually braindead as Arms Warr and Dante Must Die mode as Havoc.
For sure it is easier when you are geared.
Everyone can get to that same level of difficulty with a full timewalking set. I shared a guide for that.
Then you are an awesome player.
I geared the same way as you and it took me 50-150 pulls per spec.
I finished the last rogue fight the final day legion MT was available, 36/36.
counterpoint: it is vastly easier now than it was when it was new content and your statements are against the vast majority opinion.
I struggled with it when it was new content because I wasn’t farmed up.
Now I don’t have to be farmed up and it’s all one-shot
/shrug
I did a dk on a whim and it seemed easier… those new disenchanter fodder darkmoon cards are really good for it with the sustain they offer.
It’s up permanently. You can do it. I have faith in you.
The stacking stats on those trinkets absolutely trivializes a lot of the fight. I have no doubt it’ll get changed, I feel like they aren’t scaling correctly.
Walked in there and got the prot warrior one done on my third or fourth try, without ever having attempted it or looking into it prior.
The vast majority opinion probably walked in when it was new, died immediately, rage quit and never went back. Legion Tower eventually became a joke. Anyone talking up it’s difficulty is trying to use it as a flimsy excuse to stop their fomo weapons from coming back.
The Shadowlands Tower onwards is harder than it’s Legion counterpart. Probably a technicality since you can’t outgear it, it does scale you down. So you do have to actually try.
I did find a funny strategy though. While everyone was farming legacy content for scaled down weaponry to bring into the tower, I discovered that the Shadowlands crafted armor was VERY powerful. You could slap on embellishments on every single armor piece (except the weapons? Or jewelley. I forgot which one) and they stacked, and they were broken. Easily doing >10% of my damage. Works on any armor type.
I haven’t gone back since I did the Mage, Warrior, and Paladin challenges back in Shadowlands so it might’ve gotten even easier with Hero Talents and reworks.
Dunno, the rest of the armors look ugly. Should’ve brought back the weapons.
lmao.
