Cant even get the boss to 80% before Im destroyed.

Wait till you have some tier and choice items.
Your level doesn’t matter as it scales you down. But the scaling was pretty whack at 70 after the prepatch, so maybe it’s still bad. They may not have readjusted it yet.

Excuse my lack of knowledge…what’s the Mage Tower? I tried to look it up, but it seems like something from a previous expansion. Is this TWW? (I didn’t play for a long time so I’m trying to do some catch up.)
Mage Tower is a solo challenge boss for your spec that rewards you with a unique weapon appearance. It was one of the many, many features introduced in Legion.
When they were current you could tell who the good players are because they got their appearances before you could basically cheese them with high level gear later on in the expansion.

The Scaling Does NOT work. It never has. You almost HAVE to buy a Legion set of gear. Luckily I keep my sets in Void Storage. I put on my Legion teir sets which also have old school enchants. I also used a LOT of consumables. But it got me my MT Dew Bear and my Flying book mount
Unless you do this you may find it Undoable. As I did back in SL

Crafted gear work?
A buddy did his using his Legion Currency buying Gear tokens from the vendor next to the entrance on Deliverance point. Should be easier now because you can transfer that currency

I don’t think the ilvl was ever adjusted. Pretty sure that’s still ilvl 50 gear, which was fine when MT was first re-introduced, but since then the ilvl has been scaled up a couple times.
Look up guides for the Mage Tower. Get older gear with lots of gem slots to cheese the fights.

Buy crafted PvP gear from MoP, put in as many high end primary stat gems as possible, nuke boss before anything happens
How I did it on the spriest I hit level cap with and then did nothing else with ever again

OP which challenge are you doing? Gear shouldn’t matter mostly, but there’s BiS trinkets.
It used to reward you with a unique weapon appearance. Those went away at the end of Legion. Since they brought it back in shadowlands the reward is a fancy recolour of a class armor set. And if you beat all the mage tower challenges you get the spelltome mount.

As a part of the “new” mage tower, yes. It’s been in game for a while - since ̶B̶f̶A̶ ̶o̶r̶ Shadowlands.

I did all original 32 and been starting to do the 2.0 version. I managed only a few with DF gear before I started to grind old gear with lots of sockets for gems. It did wonders.
I wasn’t aware of that. This game has so much unobtainable stuff now
Oh I forgot, they did at least give guardian druids the werebear reward from it (in addition to the armor), but only the fel version. It’s a shame about the messed up scaling right now because when it first came back in SL the guardian fight was insanely easy.
I keep saying it came back in shadowlands. Is that right? Or was it dragonflight? My memory is a mess these days.
