Mage Tower challenges

I did try(and complete) a few back in the day. But those here right now in Dragon Flight feel off.
As example, I tried “Closing the Eye (Archmage Xylem)” and I can’t make it out of that Blizzard of his, with the razor ice. I pop a Wildfire Bomb and Fury of the Eagle but by the time I make it out I am either dead or spitting blood.
I tried “An Impossible Foe (Agatha)” which I finished back in the day under 10 tries on my Feral druid, which had really crappy gear(only from World quests, no Dungeons, M+ or Raids) and now I can’t make it to P2 on the druid, tried Unholy DK and no go either.
Same with "Feltotem’s Fall (Tugar Bloodtotem) " where the Hunter takes so much damage, back in the day I finished that one pretty easy, again crappy gear.
Weirdly “The Highlord’s Return (Highlord Kruul)” got made easier… I had over 150 tries back then which most of the time ended up me flying down. Now I actually died of mechanics other then the push-back.

I just want to know, am I the only one feeling this is way off? I mean can you still finish those in Dragon Flight right now? Do you have to resort to farming up specified gear for it?

Uhh I can provide some experiences on this:

  • At release: Hard
  • By Antorus: Easy as cake since you overpower it
  • Rerelease in Shadowland: Hard AF
  • Dragonflight: Easier (since covenant power got baked into classes), but by no means as easy as doing it in a geared Antorus set.

I remember doing it during ToS tier… it was one of the most satisfing things to do back then and very frustrating at times.

Good times.

Doing them at release was hella fun too. ToS wasn’t open yet but we had like… 902? ilvl I think at the time.

Some really good people did it with NH gear. I quit the raid team I used to raid with back in ToS and decided to focus only on those challenges… I dedicated all my time to gear my alts to start attemping those back then…

Doing the priest one first night I would try once with S2M, fail / die, queue 2s skirmish to reset the CD and half the time my partner was another shadow priest doing the same thing.

A friend of mine was adamant about not completing their MT in anything higher than NH mythic gear.

They did manage to pull it off.

I got my book in shadowlands, when they reappeared. It seemed steep, but an adequate challenge. I feel like it made me a better player at the time.

I did one recently to get a mog on a new (to me) class, and it was waaaay easier than shadowlands.

I did the guardian feral and balance ones at ~915 item level in legion, the guardian one took me about 40 tries, but I think that’s because I had to do the encounter the right way, I didn’t have the “must get” Legos the guide wanted. Feral and balance fell over with my extra shards, <10 pulls each. I didn’t do resto cuz I didn’t want to farm any more currency for the entry fee.

Mage tower was the reason I started playing again. I’d quit in WoD.

Back in Legion we didn’t really have separate PvP gear due to templates.

So I must’ve completed mine in ToS gear, or equivalent from Mythic dungeons.

I certainly remember getting some Legendaries from PvP that would later help me, like Prydaz lol.

That shield neck was actually useful in some situations, it was a simple survivability boost.

But most other Legendaries were just flat-out better.

Rdruid was painful.
Made me miss the glyph that gave regrowth a 100% crit rate at the cost of HoTs, was jonsing for direct heals at parts that bad.

I didn’t have Antorus Gear back then, I did it with World Quest gear pre Antorus.

Yeah I read from all of you you either did it in Legion or Shadowlands. I want to know how it is now. I struggle mainly with sort of numbers, like the Mage one I take so much damaghe I can’t even make it out of hos Razorice.

yep i remember those challenges. i got the two i really wanted and was maining in legion. outlaw and ret paladin

How does the Ret Paladin one work? You got 3 mobs on you, while you have to look out for two of them to cast a certain thing.

The way my eye began to twitch as memories of hearing Xylem say the same quote OVER AND OVER AS I KEPT FAILING OVER AND OVER should be studied. I can still hear the quote in my head right now like some Vietnam flashback

i dont even remember. i followed a wowhead guide. i tried it again like a year ago and i was getting overwhelmed lol.

i know repentence plays a crucial role

Thanks for the info! You don’t have Repentance baseline anymore,

Padgarre fists pumps himself

Btw cheat mode is to farm up certain gems and maybe trinkets and cheese it quite a bit. I shall say no more, but I didn’t do this. I just had a lariat necklace with DF gems that were scaled down.

I did this after I’d done it to see how much of a difference it made. Went from burning Raest to 65% in the first burn to getting him to 38% and skipping the entire last phase.

HOW COULD YOU? You’re a terrible person! That is interesting to know tho ty.

I was mostly curious as I’d been seeing lots of “kill videos” where people were doing it with busted gear but playing very poorly and only just managing to scrape a kill. So I took an afternoon to grab all the broken stuff and see how much you could actually cheese the fight by.
