Mage Tower Availability Extended and Tuning Adjustments

Some are truly bugged and not tuned correctly. Some are just fine, some are not. It has nothing to do with people wanting it nerfed to the ground.

I can only assume that most want them tuned(read tuned, NOT nerfed) a bit to be done they way they were designed a few years back…not have to use off the wall cheese strats to overcome horrid tuning and boss health/damage…still a hard challenge, I for one love a challenge, but some of these are beyond a challenge into the realm of total mistune.

In my opinion, the mechanics for the ones I have done are just fine, a lot to pay attention to and multitask just like in Legion, I did all the warlock ones back then, but the health pools and damage are out of line on a lot of them.

I can get to the part in P1 where there’s 2 warriors, then they just DR my CC and take forever to kill. I feel like if I’m not doing all of the damage adds don’t die. But if I spam DPS I lose in the HPS race because all of my NPCs have trash HP. My tank will go from 50% to zero in a non-burst phase against double warriors.

basically this, there was no tuning or bug fixing on blizzard’s end. they released their most hype content in months in such a tragic state. this is a really bad sign for things to come.

For me and my current challenge (Survival hunter) the last boss just has too much HP. Because if you follow mechanics you will lose dps killing adds and making sure your area of play narrows he shouldn’t have as MUCH hp as the original boss. At this point it feels like doing TWO challenges at one time. The mechanics part and then the DPS race of which this spec can’t pump it out…And yes I am doing a TW set, gems/enchants, and even changing talents mid way through.

Holy Priests: White damage from adds is way over tuned! They are 1 shotting my NPCs with regular hits.

Genius Dev at Blizzard: We’ve not nerfed a dispellable debuff from 50% to 40%! Durrrr

Holy Priests: ???

Let’s not forget the focus rage from the warrior adds and their basic damage is also way over tuned. My tank is going from 50% HP to zero in a couple of regular melee hits after I delete the mage NPC. Feels great.

Legit there are people already with the book mount before these nerfs and most high skilled players have done all specs of mage tower on their main characters. I think it has a lot to do with player skill and the fact people wanna clear content in a day, but they aren’t good enough to improve and just give up and Blame blizzard when when they are the problem.

All the fights are still horribly overtuned and blizzard keeps ignoring the problem.

What’s worse…they were tested on PTR, then between PTR and live launch these were stealth buffed, the Affy one had the boss health increased by 300%

Then none of these stealth buffs got to be tested because they happened at Legion TW launch…leaving many of them in this bad, mistuned state

“most skilled” meaning they ran old dungeons to find exploit trinkets and gear. even blizzard has come out and acknowledged this by hotfixing them.

I have to disagree, the tuning does not have anything to do with “player skill”, it is honestly a tuning issue. I’ll give you an example I put in other threads.

The Twins challenge which is the affliction one, yes it is beatable but you have to FORCE a pseudo enrage on the main boss by killing the twin that is really supposed to live…it MUST be done this way because on PTR the main guy had 70k health and the stealth buffed it going live with 200k health…without testing that change.

The fight, like in Legion, was supposed to be a mechanics mega check with a couple of small burst phases in between and then an all out race to manage all mechanics happening while burning the main guy the final 15-20%

NOW, since they messed his health up, people are being forced to kill the second guy(because the main guy has too much health and you are good to have him 60-65% life left at final “burn” phase) force an enrage which causes the main guy to spam mega SB at you that do 25% of your life per hit and cheese through it for 5 minutes doing Drain Life spamming with Inevitable Demise talent.

It was not designed that way and should not be done that way…yet due to the tuning, any Affy warlock beating that challenge has to go through that mess.

I’m good, I got my mog, but that doesn’t mean that the tuning isn’t totally borked and needs fixing

Since they can’t do that in the office anymore they figured they can take it out on the player base

And…some specs have a MUCH easier time with the challenges than others.

I can pretty much guarantee that the players that have the mount(good for them and sincere grats!) did NOT do each one with the hardest class/spec they could find…I’m pretty darn sure they picked the easiest class/spec combos to do each specific encounter.

One spec has a nightmare of a time with XYZ encounter while another class/spec with the same XYZ has a near cakewalk with it due to different toolkits and many class/ability changes since the MT was first created years ago.

Seems that you greatly understand that Guardian damage for this encounter is absolutely neutered without all the procs they had back in Legion, how about you consider a greater decrease in the entire encounters HP pool or an vast increase in our damage.

I shouldn’t have to switch to boomkin while dodging 50 different things just to move the phase faster or farm old content for old gear because this wasn’t balanced right around Shadowlands borrowed power.

Not tuning the Twins fight.

Ya blew it.

Do you dot him or only use Drain life to beat him after killing Karam, I did the fight on the ptr got it done and now i just can’t get it done its very frustrating that they buffed his hp by so much.

At this point its kinda of sad to see how fewer people there are at the tower. ON launch at my server there was easily 30 people standing around…Now there’s like 5. Please consider to nerf these things. This was great for the community but just the number game is all sorts of scuffed.

The circle is bigger because of balance affinity tbh. Every class has to soak up a few stacks of the debuff to get uptime on Varris. It is designed to replicate “taunt swapping” on bosses. However instead of taunt swapping you simply run out, wait for the debuff to drop and run back in. When I did it on my warrior the only damaging moves I had that could damage Varris outside of the circle are Thunder Clap and Heroic Throw. Not the best single target abilities.

Phase 1 is about maximizing your uptime and thus damage on bosses as a tank. Along with debuff management. There will be times as a tank where you have to run out and not do damage for a certain period of time. Painsmith is a great example of a recent boss fight like this. In particular phase 2 and phase 3 as you have the box of spikes that move across the room. Also because of it, phase 1 focuses on add management with the eye balls, infernal spawns (they only spawn during phase 1) and the little void adds. The only dps check that is part of phase 1 is the infernal spawn timers. You can do the challenge with 3 infernals. Anymore and you are pushing it. I was killing Varris just as the third infernal spawned and I managed to do it.

Phase 2 removes 2 of the add spawns. No more additional eyes and no more additional infernals. Existing Infernals will still regenerate. However they take increased damage and damage themselves over time. Phase 2 is all about how you preform under pressure and maximizing dps for dps checks. Tanks do dps as well. While still handling add control although that is less of a focus now since the only add spawns you will get are the void adds. Phase 2 is also where you should be making the most out of the balls Velen drops. Great tanks know how to maximize damage output without compromising survivability. Which is what Phase 2 is meant to test by having a tight dps check and how you manage your cooldowns for tank busters that grow in power as the fight progresses.

The infernals are designed to test your spatial awareness. Sometimes as a tank you need to be light on your toes.

Side note on the tank busters. One of the most fun experiences I ever had tanking was seeing how high I could go with the tank buster debuff on heroic Argus. As the only way to remove your stacks was to die on heroic and mythic. The tank challenge prepared me and many others for that.

Ppl just give up because tuning is so broken to the point its impossible for majority of players.

Or they’ve done it and moving on.
