Mage Tower as Frost Obliteration - Complete!

Big edit: I am confirming I have completed this as Obliteration spec. I was super upset at myself the other night for constantly failing, I still think it’s over-tuned but it’s now doable as Obliteration. Shout out to Bicepspump as I learned a lot from your videos and applied it to an Obliteration run. I was determined to do it.

I used my usual Shadowlands gear + my 2 legendaries as normal (even though their effects don’t work).

My talents from top to bottom - 3, 2, 3, 1, 1, 1, 2.

Use tranquil mind to switch to blinding sheet before final fight, remembering this can be annoying lol (I used Death’s Reach against Xylem)

Weapons: SL weapons with main (Razor Ice) & offhand (Fallen Crusader) - I never switched weapons or used any other rune forges.

Food: Iridescent Ravioli with Apple Sauce.
Buffs: Repurposed Fel Focuser & Drums of Fury.
Potions: Potion of Unbridled Fury & Rejuvenation Potion (Emergencies)

If you want me to explain P1 I can, other wise I will skip it.

Final phase -
Run straight to the edge behind Xylem immedietely.
Wait for the boss to say his first RP then cast Remorseless Winter.
Death Grip boss to the edge and pop Drums & Unbridled Fury Potion and then this macro -

/cast Pillar of Frost
/cast Empower Rune Weapon
/cast Raise Dead
/cast Howling Blast

VERY slowly kite, there’s some lee-way you can get away with. The darkest part of the purple floor AOE hurts but the lighter you can touch a bit. Upon learning this after many many attempts I was able to have a fair amount of room left after the fight.

First set of ads -
Remorsless winter at 1 second left of the cast.
Blinding sheet.
Aim and use Frost Wrym hitting the ads + the boss.

Second Set -

  1. Use Deaths Advance and PULL THEM FURTHER BACK.
  2. Remorsless Winter at 1 second.
  3. Blinding Sheet.
  4. Howling Blast + Use Chains of Ice on 1 of them (20 stacks). Try cleave the other 2 with Rime procs, Oblit & Frost Strike.
  5. Don’t forget to use Chains of Ice again to slow if neccessary and then Death Grip if they get too close.

3rd Set -
Same as First Set, aim and use Frost Wrym on the adds + hitting the boss.

Kite as normal, very slow, time your CD’s. You can use a Remorseless right after you kill the add’s but save the 2nd one for the next set of add’s. You can use 1 Chains of Ice on boss too between add’s. But save the 2nd one just incase.

Continue to do this until boss is dead.

I’m pretty proud of myself that I’ve finally completed it as Obliteration Spec. Good luck!

Biceps has videos of him doing it with trial characters he was DW breath iirc. Like most these challenges it’s proper CD usage and mechanics. 2h oblit is very capable of this challenge but yes it might be slightly harder.

Keep practicing and make it become 2nd nature. It can take a lot of attempts to nail it. Don’t sweat it and persevere. Took me over 100 for the blood appearance but yet I 2 shotted Agatha.

I did this as obliteration. I also don’t like BoS.

It was hard and frustrating, but a big relief when I finally got it. P3 was probably the most challenging bit. P1/2 are easy, but super punishing of you mess up at all. Like if you screw up anything it’s almost certainly a wipe before p3.

P3 is just CD management and optimisation of the bosses movement so you don’t run out of space. Just takes a bit of practice to get right. Only problem is you need to go through like 8mins of P1/2 to get a crack at it.

Keep at it, and I’m sure you will get it!

Yep, the slow boring repetative p1/2 to get to p3 is where it’s killed it for me. It’s mental torture. It takes way too long to get to p3. This alone has ruined it for me. You make 1 mistake on p3 and you have to go through the boring 10 - 15 mins of p1/2 all over again.

I hate this game, I don’t even know why i’m still subbed.

Im glad I dont like any of the armor sets from this. I honestly dont remember if I used BoS or not to beat it back in legion. If I did then I probably did it while sitting on a firepit to remind me there really are worse things in life than BoS

Maybe you should take a break if this is the case. Doesn’t have to be for a long time. When I was doing the Hunter Mage tower I wanted to pull my hair out for the same reasons. Took forever to widdle the boss down, one mistake was recoverable, but barely as it set you behind. I stopped for about 3 days.

When I went back after the third day, I completed it on the first go. I just needed a mental break from it all.

Very much this, took 2 days off, with a clear mind I attempted it again, after 4 more tries and careful planning, I pulled it off as Obliteration Spec. I feel like I’m the first to do it. It is do-able. I had some space left too.

Glad to hear the break (may) have helped! I know it did wonders for me. Congratulations on completing the challenge and your new Xmog!
