Mage Tower and its Implications for Druids

It has been some months since I last posted about this the Mage Tower skin for the druid class. That’s okay.

Since then many of us have completed a huge swaths of the game. As BFA comes to a close we can all recognize the major strides we’ve made as players and people.

Let me be genuine here, because I don’t want to beat around the bush. I have been playing druid for a very long time. There are precious few appearances for feral and guardian druid, and we have limited choices when it comes to what we see all day, every day.

The Mage Tower appearance, despite its inherent tendency to illicit angry response, has made a larger problem for my class. This is no longer about skill, or effort, or a feat of strength. One of maybe eight base appearances for my entire class since vanilla has been removed permanently from the game in a treatment that I think misunderstands the plight of my class. As a warrior, each new weapon is a new appearance. As a druid, each new weapon is a fee in transmog and the regret of not having grabbed that skin. You don’t get to enjoy new skins or weapons as a feral druid. For other classes time has moved on, but for my class, exempting allied races, nothing has changed since 7.2. For the night elves and trolls among us, nothing has changed for our racial since 6.1.

After almost three years, this specific skin is clearly a larger loss than that of a mount or a weapon skin. These two base-skins could be seen by the player using it four or five times more often, and perhaps an entire patch of game time longer, in game, than any weapon or mount would be seen by our more go-with-the-flow comrades. We druids perform almost every task transformed. To have grouped it with other weapons is concerning at best. We don’t swing our skin. We ARE our skin. We do pretty much EVERYTHING as that skin.

Here’s the real kicker, though. The feral and guardian druid mage tower skins were actually some of the easiest to obtain. It would be comparable to state that the time and effort required would be that of a short grind and some sort of Mythic at most. Then why, Blizzard, can you not lock it behind another un-timed achievement like every single other artifact skin? Say, a time-walking achievement? A reputation grind, maybe.

I see the effort as comparable. A modern reputation grind is actually more difficult, which may be what would be necessary to appease those of us who would see it unfair. Besides, this can’t be compared to a cloak or mount. This is our user experience for this class… I don’t know what else to say.

Please discuss.

Removing content is never OK.

As a Druid since Vanilla myself… one appearance out of five others for Feral or Guardian is not a plight.

Such drama.

No it isn’t. More drama.

Please name me one other Mage Tower artifact appearance that isn’t locked behind the Mage Tower.

Limited time is limited time. Challenge Mode PvE and Elite PvP are limited time appearances. Ask for new ones.

This isn’t content. It’s a skin. There are five others. And we have had limited time appearances for quite a while now.

Removing questlines? No. Removing limited time items? That’s perfectly fine and is done quite often in many aspects of life.

then you should have the mage tower appearances

No. You have plenty of options with the other appereances and color changes.
Compare that to moonkins who get one form , one color per race.

This appearance is something special given to those who completed something special (regardless if it was easy at the end of legion).

It should not be given back. Same as the weapons, the looks of the form are as important as the weapons are for other classes.

And no, I don’t have the forms either.

I hope they make more forms in the future which can only be obtained during a specific period of time.

Druid has one of the easiest times doing mage tower

I flat out used my legion boost on one and got the cat/bear form just in case I ever played one in the future

If you really love druids this much, you should have got it

You can’t even do the quest line that introduces Wrathion to the story because they removed the legendary item attached to it.

Mage tower is a category of artifact skin, one of five exactly. With that out of the way, the other four are hidden behind actual achievements instead of a time-gated event that most players cheesed through. A skin is content.

Don’t try to speak the old ways to me, vanilla player. I am also well versed in those ways, and now since classic is out, everybody else will be too.

As a warrior, you equip a weapon and get to use it. As a druid you equip a weapon and get reverted into the sad vanilla cat or bear model that was updated for 6.1.

Which is why I specifically said…

sigh

Can I beam in some mechagnome to make my post for me? No? Fine.

Content advertised as limited time should remain limited time.

You had a year and were told at the very beginning it would be an exclusive reward.

Good day.

Eh, even the mage towers had relevant lore from their quests.

TBH roid bear isn’t even that special, it’s literally a furbolg. You can get the other cool ones. The feral one is pretty cool, but just play guardian instead and you can have the same skin only bear instead of cat.

Congratulations

You picked the class knowing well aware that your armor is hidden most of the time

Quite an easy deflection, but not all of us have the luxury of that patch. I’m sorry.

I wish they’d put the challenges back in, so we’re able to run them synced at a set difficulty. I know they won’t but I’ll keep saying it anyway. :woman_shrugging:

One of six.

Default skin, Nature’s Fury, Primal Stalker, Incarnation of Nightmare, Moonspirit and your Mage Tower one, Ghost if the Pridemother.

No. It’s a skin. And you’ve got five others with four colorations each you can use.

I’m not speaking of old ways. I’m telling you how long I’ve had my main because druid is extremely important to me, as well. Don’t get all snarky.

Then go get the other five skins with four colorations each.

They really didn’t. Crappy side quests with nothing that ever moved forward with any real storyline.

But you have five other skins with four colorations each to use.

Can’t. We don’t even have the gear or talents to do them. Nor should they.

New content, new appearances is what should be done.

This right here…they already have the systems that can level sync/reduce your level for instances/content. Keep the challenges and just sync it down to remain so.

Meh, I got it. Thanks to someone I knew. Don’t use it or even play Druid. And I never cared if they brought something back.

But it ain’t gonna happen. You knew about it, and if you failed or didn’t bother then c’est la vie.

These threads don’t change anything… Blizz will tie things behind whatever they want to hopefully entice you to do said content. It’s just how it’s always been. 15 years onward, slim chance it’ll change.

Guardian druid was not one of the easier to obtain skins. That took me dozens of tries and it was super frustrating. That said, if they start unlocking skins for mage tower for druid, they’ll hear cascading complaints and requests from every other class in the game. It’ll never happen.
