Mage - spell power from intellect?

Does intellect increase spell power? Does any stat increase spell power?

No.

Int is the lesser child to Agi in Vanilla/Classic.

Intellect does the following:

  1. Increases your mana
  2. Increases your chance to critically hit with spells
  3. Increases your weapon skill learning rate

Makes no sense but ok :man_shrugging:

As in her explanation doesn’t make sense or it doesn’t make sense to design the game that way?

I don’t really see any issue one way or the other with designing the game that way. Intellect need not inherently represent the potency of a spell. In fact I would argue that in at least half the cases the potency of the spell depends on the ingredients used, or is inherent to the spell itself, and intellect merely allows one to cast it.

Int only helps increase crit chance but is close to negligible.

This is… hyperbolic?

Int increases mana supply and the rate at which you acquire weapon skills. It also increases your chance to score a critical hit with spells.

Int does not directly increase your spell power.

Hijacking this thread to ask if theres a way to see your spell crit rating in game. I know how to check normal crit, but not spell crit.

Also does hit rating count for spells or do you specifically need ‘spell hit’ rating?

You need spell hit which counters resistance. Spell power can be seen through addons like extended character stats.

Thank you.

You need an add-on like dejastatsclassic or characterstatsclassic to see that information.

ITT: People who don’t know that Intellect did increase spell power in later expansions also not answering the OP with “Not in classic/vanilla but was added later on”.

Pretty sure that change started in Cataclysm.

The only stat that increases spell power is “Equip: Increases damage from magical spells and effects by X.”

Intellect increases spell crit by a very small amount, though. So 60 Intellect will increase your Mana by 900, your Spell Crit by 1%, and your rate of increasing weapon skills by an unknown amount (this doesn’t really matter though).

Thank you everyone! Yes, increasing crit chance is the correct answer. You all win a free, all expense paid trip to… err… Albuquerque! B-D

Extended character stats addon

With patch 3.0 they combined the ‘healing power’ with ‘damage and healing’ into a single stat of spell power. 4.0 removed spell power from all items except weapons and made intellect directly add to spell power.
