Mage or Warlock

I still can’t decide which one to go for. I’m mainly a PVE guy if that helps.

Mage will rock dps charts, but very stiff competition for gear.
Warlocks easy to gear, hard to get high dps

This is especially true for Teir set pieces

Pvp is where its at, both shine in there own way. I think warlock helps a bit more if you are solo.

both will raid by spamming one button (shadowbolt/frostbolt)

warlocks will have to spend their bag space and time farming shards and giving out healthstones, which is a painfully boring task. on the other hand, they have to coolest mount in the game (but it will only be added in phase 2)

there are pros and cons to each class; leveling as a warlock is much more comfortable and you get a free mount at 40, but your dps won’t be very good until higher raid tiers. mages are far from topping the charts, but they do better than warlocks and have less boring chores to do.

i’d say it boils down to personal preference. if you don’t want to deal with summoning/healthstone hassle, roll a mage instead

Both are very good and both have outstanding strong points.

If you like killing stuff fast, quick transcontinental travel, free food & drinks? Frost Mage is the choice.

If you like a safer style of play, free mount and training, various demon pets? Warlock will get it done.

My plan is to pick both. The Warlock will feed the Mage mats and cash.

You will always have a spot as a mage and raids can have 8+ mages in a 40 man. Warlocks in my history you are using 2 to 3 because of your curse of elements to help the mages and all to burn down the boss. It’s just shadowbolt spam for you.

Mages Frostbolt spam until AQ then you go fire
Warlock eternally using shadowbolt

On the bright side where raids in my experience have a few warlocks like 2 to 4 its easy to get you class gear pieces for tier sets where a mage will be rolling against 7+ other mages.

I feel sorry for the ignite contribution and loot distribution at that point.

Go mage so I can kill you in pvp as a warlock with Fel hunter

Warlock has far more utility than mage, and both are just fine with dps. There’s gazzilions of other very important stuff to do besides raiding, that will be much easier done on a lock. Lock is just stronger, in solo content.

But if u like sitting and drinking water all the time, and getting your face melted by tough solo content that warlocks breeze through, then mage is definitely the way to go.

However!!! Mob tagging can suck terribly on a lock compared to mage, you will lose a lot of mobs to other people in the same immediate area as you.

Mage if you want to world pvp you can win against any other class even with a gear disadvantage.

Well its frostbolt spam deep arcane + 1 winter’s chill mage until AQ. Then its fireball/fire blast spam after with ignite.

Ignite is so cool where all mages contribute hehehehe big dot.

That may be so, but what would you rather have: 1.5k dps split 5 ways or 10 ways?

If the boss dies faster does it matter?

warlocks will be more in demand that mages. Summoning will be a huge plus… Plus you have awesome demons for help. Mage is also cool but not in as much demand as a warlock

Mage, farming soul shards and keeping inventory space open for them is a pain.

The one downside for warlock. At least as a mage portal stones are cheap(ish)

Warlock for sure.

Did we play the same game. Warlocks put out very nice stable dps. Which is better for long fights. Now if you thinking affliction they yes they suck. But destro… oh no no no. They are right up there on top.
