Mage or Warlock

Through all my alts, I’ve decided between these two. I truly enjoy both equally (inb4 play both comments, pls don’t do that) I want to stick with one to be my MAIN and mess around on the others. I haven’t touched my lock since Legion, which is the main reason I’m asking. It’s sitting at 110.

What are some of your opinions between these two classes? I want something fairly easy to play (Don’t you dare say BM) The two specs that intrigue me the most are Frost and Dest.

Destro ( for me anyway) is so clunky and intuitive that I’s always pick Frost, although my preference is Arcane. I know there are are some that can play Destro well, but not me. If you can handle the mana management issues with Arcane I’d say it’s easier than Frost, but of course I’m prejudiced. BM lol.

I will always have a Mage and Rouge as 2 classes I will always play, love all 3 specs for both classes and swap between them evenly (Arcane/Fire i spend 40% of my time on each, and 20% frost, 50% Assassination 30% outlaw and 20% sub for rogue).

What you should do is find a class you absolutely love all 3 specs (at least 3 if a druid, go away DH’s with 2) so that no matter what changes are made you will have at least 1 or 2 specs that don’t change drastically its still a class you want to play. That class you should dump all achivments and reps on

I believe Warlock can have a more varied, engaging playstyle than Mage.

Also, with a pet and fear, you can sort of zone out during PvE on your Warlock if you like, and can take down larger things than a Mage. (Frost Mage’s elemental is a pet, but is NOT going to hold aggro or take a beating…)

For Warlocks, I prefer Affliction.
For Mages, I prefer Frost.

P.S. Why do you care what I, or anybody else, likes to play? Play them both and see which one you enjoy more.

I love my mage but alas 2 expansions in a row they have been pretty bad. Arcane mage has finished dead last or bottom 3 the past 2 expansions and doesn’t even parse in Mythic CotS. Fire has been bottom 3 and frost the only decent spec is middle of the pack.

The locks have all 3 specs parsing higher than 1 mage spec in some difficulties but have always at least 2 high end specs and 1 that is usually top 2.

warlock is more fun imo. plus it’s really easy to solo stuff. and you have much better mog options than mage imo. if you’re talking sets.

Warlocks are clothie tanks, you outheal the incoming damage that using the voidwalker is optional but allows you to handle huge packs with ease without having to kite around. Affliction also allows mass tagging just need to cycle your targets to keep them refreshed.

Well if you wanna feel like your playing with a tumor, warlock.

Warlock this expansion imo has been kind meh, just like Legion. Demonology got fixed a lot, but I still think lock is so meh this expansion.

There will come a time on your mage where you will be irritated that you cannot solo something, and wish that you had gone warlock.

There will come a time on your warlock where you are getting steamrolled by even the most mediocre melee players, and you wish that you could kite them.

I would suggest Warlock. I love all 3 specs for the class. The tank pet, healthstones, being able to summon people, soulstones. My favorite class since I started playing 5 years ago. I have tried Mage several times and I just can’t do it.

my mage is still 100 and my alliance bank alt. he’s the only class i didn’t do for the legion campaigns and why i don’t have the feat of strength. but warlock master race ofc.

Warlock.

Mage was barely holding on In Legion, thanks to the traits. It lost those, and has such a limited kit/rng playstyle, that it just doesn’t feel fun anymore.

Warlocks have a decent kit, and you have control over your damage, mostly.

As a bonus, finding groups as a lock is a joke.

Warlock.

I committed the terrible mistake of maining a Mage this expansion. We never recovered after losing our Artifact, Legendary and Tier traits.

Clunky, and intuitive should not be used to describe the same thing. Intuitive classes would be DHs, that flow well, and almost play themselves.

Don’t forget our best spells being either removed, or made spec specific in Legion/WoD

And you can’t leave behind the multi spec and PvP talent that used to be baseline either.

And the mage armor being nerfed to only activate when your piddly barrier is up.

Rip 8% haste buff.

Demonology is in a good place.
Frost Mage is always reliable.
I would roll the Warlock. More difficult but more dynamic.

Warlock if you want to learn a class.

Mage if you want to wrestle it.
