Mage or warlock

I’m wanting to roll either a mage or a warlock for the coming patch. But can’t decide on what on to roll, opinions are welcomed. Aside from mythic+ I plan on doing everything else.

Destro Warlock…we are very strong. I just made her 5 days ago and I’m using the Easy Mode from Icy Veins and there hasn’t come a time I feel fear from anything. It says I’m only a level 30 but in actuality I’m at level 47 and still in High Mountain. Easy Peasy leveling her…

Wrong answer.

The answer is ele shaman or balance druid.

Hrmn… Well, Mage is a good class in a lot of ways. Probably the best cloth class for transmog hunting since we have some decent mobility compared to the others with Blink, and there’s also the fact Arcane Explosion isn’t limited in the number of targets it can hit.

Teleport/Portal also brings a great deal of quality of life and convenience. That having been said, Warlocks have the benefit of pets, which can make solo’ing rare encounters very simple. Not saying you can’t do them as a Mage, but you’ll be blowing through cooldowns hard.

I’ll add now that, I have limited experience as a Warlock, whereas I’ve been playing a mage since vanilla. It’s a class I like a lot.

In the end, they’re both excellent classes. I don’t think you could go wrong with either one.

I picked mage for S2 so my guild could have AI and I’ve quit already because it is so terrible, no matter which spec. The rework doesn’t look promising AT ALL.

At the end of the day, no matter which role you pick, you’re still being asked to stand still and DPS while also being asked to constantly move to avoid/perform mechanics. If you enjoy that contradiction, proceed. But pick warlock because at least you’ll be able to take some damage and sustain some of your own health. Mage is paper thin and aside from alter time 100% reliant on healers to sustain them.

Nice Name by the way.

Besides the point. I guess both.

I would actually say warlock is better for this with burning rush. Especially in old content where you can one shot things with corruption. As this is enough to recover the health lost by using it.
So in old dungeons youre basically running at an increased 60% movement speed the whole time. Its pretty awesome.

we can’t tell how good mage will be. Fire certainly gonna get a lot better to play, but Frost might suffer from button bloat if all active talents become meta.

In old raids you play arcane with talent that gives you 50% movespeed after arcane barrage and it has 100% uptime if mobs are not too far away from each other. + movespeed from invis spells, + alter time small speed boost

I’ve got a destro lock that is a lot of fun. It just feels very explosive, very impactful.

Mage is getting a pretty big overhaul though. If possible you might want to wait and see how they shape up. Or make a warlock no to work on, but maybe see if the changes to make entice you later.

I was not aware of that talent.
I would still say warlock has the slight edge due to the higher speed and being able to use it without enemies around.
But theyre both really solid in this department so cant go wrong with either.

I think is better you wait the next patch to make a better comparison, cause mage class will receive a big rework. Until there, you can try warlock first, when the new patch arrives you test mage, and than you make your decision.

if the character is just for farming old content…or if you intent to raid only where you’ll have a healer 90% of the time, maybe a mage.
if you solo a lot in current, destruction lock with VW pet.

Personally I think you really have to love Mages to play them. I liked them, but Warlocks just have more utility and ability to get things done.

Gateway, Healthstones, Brez, Summoning - you really miss a Warlock if your PUG does not have one. But Mages are a dime a dozen dps. AI might be clutch on healing intensive fights, they have immunities for mechanics, but so do other classes.

Throughout the history of WoW, many of the crazy videos of people soloing current content have been Warlocks - definitely more often than Mages.

Playing a Mage is probably good for some folks, but Warlocks have more tools for solo and group play.

the wife loved playing arcane. Then I got her to try Rdruid, Rshaman and destruction lock. She only uses her mage for farming old content anymore.
mage is great for farming or in group content, but neither of us can stand it otherwise.
yeah, kiting…and I can kite with any other class AND have good heals/mitigation that actually works tons better.

I dunno what I want to do with her. I haven’t leveled anything from level 1 in quite a few years.

I’m not interested in dungeons or raiding anymore since WOD. The state of PVP in DF is abysmal. I have a Level 70 hunter I do randoms with and really have no where to go unless i do rated .
I do KNOW when I meet a Destro Warlock in PVP it is a very devastating encounter. They are Beasts . So I made one~

yeah, if i was unsure of what direction I was going, id just do lock.
Destruction is silly easy and with all the heals it has plus a personal tank with voidwalker, its just way too good by comparison to mage.
I always talent Howl of Terror for when those mobs come charging in. Saved me from dying more than once playing solo.

Since I am soloing content I have never once encountered a need to use Howl of Terror. I just stand there and take what comes and beat them down with no fear of anything. Now if I were in a PVP match Howl of Terror might be very useful.

likely that Im just pulling more in on myself, id think. I get a bit in a rush and just want to get it done and will drag a lot more than I probably should. lol

Roll mage.
