Mage or Priest?

i like mage problem is i like support too. not just playing dps all the time it gets boring. ontop of that though i really dont care much for say priest lore in game wise. but i don’t really want to play shaman either yet alone possibly paladin either. im more of the caster type.

so i was wondering do you think i’d be better off just going mage or just say F it and play priest? they are one of the classes in game that i have yet to main besides all the melee classes. im more of a ranged player never cared much for melee in WoW

Mage.

Are you PVP or PVE?
For PVP mage is great as a CC class, and a pain for rouges.
If you are PVE doing raids, you might as well do priest in a support role

i will be going for both. PvP and PvE.

If you know how to CC, a mage is fun for the whole team.

i know how to CC i main a mage for past 6 years in retail it just gets boring to me though. i mean it has its fun aspects yea but also gets boring as well. but aye i guess mage is better for me in the end. priest would be something similar anyways and i guess i can support um with DPS/cc instead so not all that bad lol

Then play both.
As range clothies it’s not different to twitch back and forth.

Going back and forth from my lock to rouge, and the many beers gets wonky at times

i have no level 60 yet alone a lvl 10 so gotta focus on one for now.

If you’re planning for tbc…

Mages don’t rule in TBC like they do in early vanilla. The impending target cap on aoe will also limit them. Early TBC is dependent on lots of heroic dungeon runs - and both mages (for cc) and priests (for healing) are sought after for running dungeons - but it’s often easier to get runs if you are known as a competent healer.

In terms of ranged dps locks and hunters are usually rated the best in TBC - though in later tiers you need to cope with endless shadowbolt spam if you are playing a lock (I play a lock but stick to affliction and enjoy it).

Shadow priests are much more useful in TBC if healing is not your thing - not for topping charts but for good support. They can also be good in pvp.

yea im tryna plan for tbc but at the same time just enjoy it at my own pace i know i aint gonna hit 60 when tbc launches or be geared and all that.

i tried to go priest just now and i was like ahh screw this idk what it is about that class but i just cant get into it. gonna try druid because yea i do want to heal. as last resort guess imma go mage. doesn’t necessarily need to be OP or anything just idk most of the classic classes and how they play i have a hard time getting into especially since i started WoW in cata so i didn’t experience how they were back then and the struggles/gameplay.

Play both .

You could also play shaman. They the top rated healers by tier 7 - and if you went alliance in the pre-patch you’d be the same as everyone else in terms of levelling. Shaman will be much sought after - most people level them after they have levelled their previous main.

Shamans are way better at pvp as elemental. Alliance hates fighting them, totem forest, almost unkillable, and damage is insane… you one shot people with your combo.
