I asked about mage or hunter and after long thought i picked the mage coz was told hunters lose out in long run (end game etc etc). however I played with a friend recently and he is a lock about the same level (23) it seems like lock is a better class (and very fun) for solo play.
I asked about mage or hunter before is because having a pet to tank is super good for new players like myself, and never did i thought about warlocks (mage + pet)…
I’ve been progressing on my mage (level 22) and just maxed my imp blizz but couldn’t play aoe well, so i figured i’ll still do solo mobs for now… im in dilemma because i have always wanted to play a pet class but also nuker… and warlock fits the bill… but something’s holding me back coz i know aoe mage can be fun at higher level… please share your thoughts, tyvm!
If you’ve always wanted a pet class then go Lock. However, mage is fantastic for solo play. Just because you can use imp Blizz doesn’t mean you have to. I only really took advantage of that after I reached 60.
just felt its always better to have “something” tank for us while leveling
so i wanted a hunter but was told they are less favourable later on…also hunter pet doesn’t do much damages at higher level etc etc…so warlock has the best of both, pet + nuke, i guess?
just started a lock and felt lock has a much easier start (having summon at level 1, and the no regen after every mob), not sure about later though
you will find voidwalker wont be tanking for long, your damage will exceed its ability to maintain threat on targets. pet doesn’t scale with gear either.

so its about the same as hunter’s pet, eventually? late game mage > lock?
Pets don’t really have the threat to hold agro on anyone not wanding/auto attacking so I wouldn’t really get your hopes up about that.
If you wan’t to play Hunter I would say go for it, esp for a newer player like yourself. They only really fall off in end game raiding with full world buffs and consumes, and even then they are needed to dispel enrages so they have raid spots. They are also the easiest class to gear in the whole game at 60.

thanks,i get it now…so do you mean classes with pets like lock/hunter will have issues in pve later on at higher level?
i tried lock and really like its gameplay, so i think i’ll stick with lock than hunter for now
Locks are very fun, best solo class. Mages have their aoe fun too.
yesm both mages and lock is super fun, im enjoying lock now coz i can do much more than what i could on mage at my current level
by the way, how many healthstone can we have? so far i can only have 1… i read something about being able to keep 3 later on?
In general locks are leveled by drain tanking. In order for your VW to keep aggro you’d have to do so little damage that you’re gimping yourself as far as efficiency goes. Go with a drain tank build all the way up the affliction tree and take dark pact. Then your pet is a mana battery and you can just keep pulling without taking breaks. It’s pretty nice.
Lock. You’ll thank me in TBC.
