Mage nerf doesn't solve the problem

Dear blizzard and those who feel AoE mage should be nerfed,

It is imperative we understand that the mage nerf has nothing to do with the ability to kite mobs with CC from frost and it is all based on BOT farming and RMT and nothing to do with the actual AoE farm.

Thus, i must argue on behalf of the mage brethren and sisters. Nerfing the class does not stop BOTs. The work around? Run another mage with the mage and the nerf collapses. This happened before in TBC for anti boosts and failed. The only people suffering are the innocent mage players.

Are we falling so low to use mages AoE as an excuse for a lack of BOT control thats been a problem since WoW has been around? I see that the attempt is to make it vulnerable for a time to force the programmed bot to fail, but the work around is brute force of numbers.

We can calculate that nerfing a class for RMT is not the right answer. Then we should look at the other options. What about a tax bracket on traded gold? If someone trades gold in lump sums, its eaten by tax. Want to trade over 500g to someone? Large Tax. Trading 50g? smaller tax. Auction houses already take a small cut, but this is negligible. Items should fluctuate, but not to absurds. If you auction an item that should be 500g for 5k, then you should pay a hefty fee. This would encourage prices to stay realistic.

If anyone complains about having 50k gold being taxed, then im sorry to say, but what can you realistically spend that on? At some point you collect money to just have money for moneys sake, which means inflation.

I digress. The goal is value of an item and paying the value based on rarity should be considered, but people walking around with more than 5-10k gold in their characters serves what purpose? Only 2 types of people hoard gold like that, the small portion of rare people that actually save that amount, or gold sellers. I’d argue 99% of people wont have that amount and wont need it.

In conclusion, Cut inflation, fight RMT at the same time. Save the players from a needless nerf.

idk but aoe sucks and created m+ garbage where you pull and clutter the screen with junk. let it die. or unironically go back to retail. aoe can never be nerfed hard enough

They could solve this problem by only allowing mages to have chill abilities on a maximum of 5-8 mobs at the same time. If druids and warriors can kill 3-5 mobs at the same time, why cant a dedicated damage dealing class that is supposedly the AoE master class?

Thats fair, i think limiting the mobs would work, but, the root of the problem is RMT. What do they do then? removing AoE would cause problems and making more AoE for all would also cause problems. Then whats the answer? Limiting mobs would only make it take longer for bots, not stop them. Why have the average player suffer then? I figure targeting trades and gold hoarders would force the RMT market in a different way and protect players.

Technically tax everyone.

I don’t think nerfing Frost Mage AoE is the right way to deal with bots.

New players who actually want to learn Mage AoE shouldn’t have five gnolls smashing their face simply because Blizzard’s chill barely lasts anymore. AoE kiting has always been one of the most unique and fun parts of playing a Frost Mage.

What worries me even more is that Mages already seem to be becoming less common in the WoW Forever beta. It honestly feels like the class is turning into an endangered species. If changes keep removing the things that made Mage fun and unique, fewer players are going to want to play one at all.

Botters will eventually find another farming method anyway. Punishing normal players and removing an entire playstyle does not solve the bot problem.

I would rather see Blizzard attack bots directly with better detection and stronger anti-cheat systems, even something more aggressive similar to what competitive platforms like FACEIT use, instead of balancing the class around bot behaviour.

Please bring back a more useful Blizzard slow/chill, or at least find a middle ground that allows legitimate players to learn and enjoy AoE farming without enabling unlimited dungeon pulls.

Thank you to those non-mage players for your support. Its a breath of fresh air from getting so much hate for simply wanting to retain the identity we’ve had for 20 years. I would happily accept an 8 mob limit on blizzard if we could have the permafrost/blizzard/coc nerfs reverted. I don’t need to pull entire dungeons to feel effective at AOE. I would also gladly give up ice lance to get back our playstyle of proc fishing with rank 1 spells. I hope the devs can find a way to reverse course, and quick.

Honestly, this is probably the best middle ground.
