Mage is in a BAD spot in PvP for SoD

I think turning mages into healers made them feel like they had to limit their power pretty drastically is my guess… But I’ll agree that mage seems to be the most easily walked all over class there is in the game currently.

I mean yes, but this only affects fireblast/pyroblast procs. Balefire and FFB take the targets lowest resistances. And its still not good.

Mage is absolutely terrible in pvp.

My mages ice lance hits for 200 damage, while my warriors DEEP WOUNDS TICKS FOR 400.

It is a very sad state.

Exactly, that’s what i’m saying. Why does ice lance hit so low? It’s an ability that requires set up. It should be rewarding to successfully use.

Blizz plz :
- Reduce FFB cast time to 2 second cast. Reduce it’s damage if needed so it doesn’t impact PvE.
- Boost Ice Lance damage against frozen targets.
- Reduce by half the mana cost of Blink and remove the mana cost of Displacement.
- Make the shields scale with SP.
- Optional : Put Deep Freeze off GCD.

First off for your “changes” they could instead do what they did for EVERY OTHER CLASS except for mages and do this:
-make our talents affect our spells… namely FFB being affected by imp fireball and frost bolt therefore reducing its cast time TO 2 seconds without affecting its dmg at all but making it useful.
-boost ice lance dmg PERIOD. Right now it deals 1 DPS against non frozen targets and 3 dmg against frozen targets and if it crits it hits for 6. (Obv not accurately but it’s close)

  • blink frees you. It’s expensive. Displacement does NOT free you but is equally as expensive as blink AND cannot be cast if rooted stunned etc. so yes VERY overpriced. Plus its cooldown is much longer and must be runed yet it’s the exact same mana cost.
  • shields do scale with SP but only 10% of sp so with 600 sp it’s a useless 60 dmg. So yes make it scale to a more reasonable amount. Hell even 50% wouldn’t break it. Even 100% wouldn’t break it cause every other class deals that much dmg in a single hit.
  • lastly deep freeze is 100% garbage because every time I use it it doesn’t even stun. Either gets resisted or removed AND its magic so it just gets dispelled PLUS the global AND the cooldown, lastly it’s our ONLY cc that could work. Slows are 100% meaningless to every class now since they can dash 15 times or remove it or ignore it or pull you in or out range you.

Would be fine for PvP but they won’t because of pve.

Doesn’t matter if ice lance does more damage outside of FoF or frozen, the point is that a shatter combo should be dealing A LOT of damage and it doesn’t really atm.

Nah DF is good, many sweaters run in BG with bags full of FaPs and orc racial is a pain but it’s nice to have a cc like that. I just wish my shatter combo would truly hurt.

Oh and also bring cata version of scorch ! Would love to have a cast while moving

There are so many things they could do for mage that wouldn’t break the game any worse than it already is, and it would bring us up in line with everyone else. Whether or not they’ll actually take the 1 day to code it in is another story.

I’m almost certain at this point that even making feedback posts for Mage class specifically is just being ignored. I really don’t think they care which just makes me sad. IDK how they can expect anyone to have confidence in them for classic+ when this is how they handle class balance (yes I know classes will never be perfectly balanced in classic pvp, but thats not what anyone expects. We just have a baseline expectation that OP stuff would be knocked down a peg and struggling stuff would be brought up in line with others)

Maybe they will announce that SoD continues as TBC fo the 20th anniversary in november and THEN they will focus a bit more on PvP since there will be arena.
But I guess they won’t while there is no rated PvP.
Devs don’t play their games so they need factual numbers to balance anything. Or a LOT of outage from the community.

On top of horde winning the vast majority of ALL pvp encounters, they also have access to more OP classes than alliance does, AND even non-mage players are commenting on how dog turd Mage is as a class in PvP and that there needs to be some balance passes done.

If that’s not enough to catch their senses for a week’s worth of hotfixes then what are they even dev’ing and being paid for? PvE has been great. I applaud them on the PvE end. I’ve had fun. PvE isn’t the main focus of the game though, it’s HALF. Classic is absolutely a 50/50 mix of PvE and PvP. Ignoring 1 to favor the other is a great way to kill your game.

Mage feels like actual dog in pvp… the damage is so terrible Ice has “Survivability” but you cant kill anyone and Ice lance hits like a wet noodle.

I feel the range is a big problem for me in pvp. Especially if I go frost (because of being so one shottish) i am now 2 shottish :grin: how does one compete with a boomy doing the stupid star shards or whatever it is or a hunter at 30 yrds when they are launching at 40+. I have demolished many players with 2 balefires but that is only if there are 14 other in front of me tying them up , one on one = dead every time
