Mage in SoD, anyone else feel like they are terribly underpowered currently?

I am struggling to kill single mobs perfectly kiting. I have to drink after every mob kill or I will go oom half way through the next mob. NPC Casters 3 shot me while I takes me 8 casts to kill anything minimum around level 13. If I get two mobs on me there’s a real chance I could die without perfect kiting as I go oom.

The damage/hp increase on mobs might be perfect for classes like hunter/warlock to still cruise through, but mage is really struggling.

I feel like you typed something wrong there.

I did lmao, thanks. Got mage brain.

Are you training your latest skills every 2 levels? With polymorph and frost nova mages you should be able to easily handle two mobs at once. The drinking at low levels after every 2-3 kills sucks but that was how mage was in vanilla

Yes and it was expected. Its not season of balance.

Im having fun. Its a slow start but it would be very easy to make mage very overpowered, which it probably will be in the later brackets. I drink my water, kite my mobs, smoke, drink some water, dream about crit scaling.

I think mage was so overrepresented in era that this feels good to see other classes shine for now

Fingers crossed it gets better, because right now is a real slog.

I am taking up engineering as a mage for PvP purposes of course and the few little knick knacks make it a little nicer.

Only qualm is how quick you blow through mana and have to drink every few mobs or so.

Huge tip for mages, when you get regeneration you can use it on yourself then your living flame heals you (counts as arcane damage for some reason cos spellfire), lets you do aoe pulls and self sustain, also big burst healing + huge damage in dungeons.

That’s pretty insane thanks for the tip.

Make sure you have the highest ranks of your spells equipped. My client hid spellranks in my spellbook automatically so I didn’t realize I was using an outdated spell for a little bit.

not my first rodeo, but thanks.

They are OP at AoE farming potentially with regen and arcane AoE (AE + living flame), but we’re not all or always doing that.

I feel like I spend 50% of my life as a mage drinking, which I guess is how vanilla was for mages, but in SoD, I think they should have improved that. If anything the healing runes make it worse since they’re also expensive to cast.

Give us a 50% buff to our water values or something. World of Drinkingcraft ATM.

Lol i can aoe farm like 6 mobs right now at lvl 17 as fire. I feel stronger tbh.

I do sit to drink every pull when aoeing and every few pulls when single target. I find single target frostbolt, wand, frost nova, wand to be effective.

Agen 25 Just because something’s overpowered at 25 Doesn’t mean it’s going to be overpowered at 40 or 60.

I agree, Mage feels gimped. Especially watching locks steamrolling mobs and never dipping below 100% hp. Meanwhile one mob nearly kills me and I have to stand there for 45 seconds before I can start drinking because theres a swarm of players tagging mobs nearby.

The comprehension charms are arbitrary too. Why do I have to go to SW and pay 7s for my rune?

“Its only level 25” oh piss off. SoD is about the altered journey, not endgame. I’m not going to level a mage like its 2005 while everyone around me is playing in 2023.

10/10.

Thanks!

Casters are incredibly dangerous and I had the same issue. That said, unless you get really good timing on casts to avoid pushback + crits, at level 13 you’ll need to use LoS to win. You can actually lose straight-up spam 1v1s against most casters.

As for mana, check your runes. I found fighting mobs +0 to +2 my level took 40-60% of my mana depending on RNG, but with living bomb and regeneration everything felt a lot more comfortable.

So far on my mage (hit 19 a bit ago) the game has gotten a lot easier as I’ve leveled and gotten a little bit of gear + runes.

I agree that mages early on seem weak, but you just need to play with things and stick to it.

Also, Living Flame is a great CD for over-pulls.

Yeah, I’ve been LOS-ing when I can, but not every caster allows it. I really wish they hadn’t buffed NPCs. Making leveling more difficult is not something I think the majority of people wanted. It might be fine for some classes, but it makes others literally impossible to level alone. I tried leveling a warrior and at level 11 I was literally unable to solo a level 12 boar. It’s ridiculous.

mages shine in aoe , ST not so much , and yeah 50% of the time mage u are drinking , at least is water otherwise :dracthyr_hehe_animated:
