After testing this quite a bit, it seems that taking the Improved Scorch talent along with the Arcane Concentration talent causes Scorch to NEVER proc Arcane Concentration Clearcasting. I’ve cast thousands, or perhaps tens of thousands, of Scorches with this build and have yet to proc Clearcasting a single time.
At first, I thought that it was simply a bug with Scorch. However, after testing Arcane Concentration with Scorch in other builds, it works fine except when you also have the Improved Scorch talent at 3 ranks.

I’m having the same problem. I have Arcane Concentration and Improved Scorch and AC never procs when scorching. Please fix. Thanks.

Bump, hoping to get this noticed/confirmed. Any other mages tried this? It’s a pretty specific and probably uncommon set of talents at this point in the game (Fire being totally unviable for MC and like 1/4th of the end game dungeons due to fire immunity), but it seems to be a pretty big problem
This is getting very frustrating. I spent a lot of time before the classic launch trying to perfect my arcane/fire spec. I don’t want to play the same cookie-cutter specs as everyone else. But my spec revolves around Scorch and clearcasting is a big part of it. This bug just about breaks my spec completely. I really hope it gets resolved soon. I agree that it was probably missed in beta because very few people roll arcane/fire and you also have to be paying attention to notice that clearcasting isn’t triggering.
I have an update after playing around more with it. Scorch WILL proc Clearcast even with 3/3 in the Improved Scorch talent, but only if the Fire Vulnerability (Improved Scorch) debuff is resisted.
It seems that if the game engine cannot apply the Fire Vulnerability debuff from Improved Scorch, it will correctly trigger the roll for Clearcast from Arcane Concentration. However, if Fire Vulnerability is applied, the engine no longer tries to roll for Arcane Concentration.
Just thought I’d throw this out there to help this get resolved as quickly as possible with the devs.

So 100%, you are saying this is still a bug? I mean, scorch should ALWAYS have a chance to proc clearcasting… right? that’s just common sense…
I haven’t tested this in a while at this point, but unless it was hotfixed then yes this is still a bug. You can try it yourself. What I’m fairly sure is happening is that any time Fire Vulnerability is being applied it is not rolling for the Clearcast proc. This means that if you have Imp Scorch and the debuff is not resisted, you will never get a Clearcast proc from Scorch.
Anyone know if this was ever fixed?
Can we please get an answer for this from Blizzard? This is clearly a bug as the talent states “after any damage spell”.
Another healthy bump. If this is indeed bugged, it needs to be fixed before P5 hits. A lot of mages have already started switching their spec to fire so it’s only going to become more of an issue.
I can’t believe I made this thread less than 2 months after classic launch and this bug is still in the game with P5 around the corner. This is going to be very relevant for a lot of people very soon.
and we still dont have an answer
we demand answers, well =P yes pls look into this blizz friends.
Blatant obvious bug? Let’s ignore it for 8 months.
Advanced logs not showing world buffs? Priority #1!
I haven’t done testing with data sets, but I also get the sense the scorch debuff is being resisted based on partial resist rates rather than simple hit chance… that or its not gaining hit chance benefits from talents or gear. I am hit capped so I should only see 1% resists, yet I consistently see more like 10-20% resisted. Whenever I spec fire it’s been incredibly rare to see 5 scorches result in 5 debuffs, when it should be happening 95.1% of the time.
Bumping, hoping this gets noticed and can make it in the AQ patch
Seems to be fixed, i got clearcasting procs with scorch (imp scorch spec’d) on the PTR.
Oh awesome! Thanks for testing
