I’m just gonna hit this one. Seeing how people use Mei’s wall, this one is gonna be a hard no from me. Allowing player control of LoS objects in the open world in an MMO can only end in tears.

the first MMO i played was Ultima Online. Wall of Flame could trap players on a bridge and they would try to flee and be stuck. That was some good times. I guess that one is a little far off for a game like wow, but we need something new/fun/exciting.

This would probably be really bad for fire in pvp. Blizzard could have ignite not spread to targets under the effect of crowd control but given how reluctant they seem to giving classes changes, that much effort might be out of scope.

  • Ring of Power change is good, but it should have a 2nd charge for manual placement:

This would probably be better design wise but it would take rop which is looking to compete, rather than dominate and make it the dominant choice again. Then players would be unhappy they have to cast rop again.

  • 4 Min CD that adds wall of flame/Frost/Arcane that acts as a Mei Wall:

This would be a neat PvP talent or tier 40 talent replacing Ice Ward. However, Ice Ward is looking nice when combined with Grisly Ice and mage really doesn’t deserve more good utility for m+ baseline.

  • Increase Cone of Cold Damage and/or give it a knock back:

Increasing its damage and making it a square root scaling spell would be better than giving it a knockback. Mage already has loads of utility in m+, it really shouldn’t get more free utility.

  • Cauterize for all specs:

This would be incredibly broken in pvp and mage is already insanely durable in pve, doubly so with alter.

  • Displacement as a talent choice in the Shimmer Row:

Imo blazing speed would be a better talent. Blazing speed replacing Blazing Soul, Slipstream and Glacial Insulation would be my ideal. It probably couldn’t compete with shimmer but nothing really can compete with shimmer.

  • Deep Freeze for Frost:

While it would be very nice, this could be a potential nightmare for PvP. It would have as much a chance to be reverted the patch after it was implemented as it would just to get added back in.

  • Ice Nova, Supernova, Blast wave baseline and increase their damage:

While this does increase mage’s utility, this would be such a nice change that I really hope that some class designer reads this line and says “yea sure that sounds good” and does it.

  • Impact (Passive 2 second stun proc) for Fire:

This was beyond frustrating and overpowered when it was in the game. Hard pass, we don’t need the whining this would create.

  • Flamestrike has a 30% chance to contribute to HotStreak:

This idea should replace flame patch imo and flame patch should be baseline as Flamestrike rank 2 where current Flamestrike rank 2 is changed to rank 3 and keeps the damage increase.

  • Re-design Ray of Frost to pierce and hit anything in it’s path:

So like eye beam but frost? Sounds cool.

  • Comet storm should be a proc from blizzard or Frost orb:

No. The game does not need passive damage procs. The spell is really good feeling in PvP and is very good for early m+.

If I can add one, baseline blastwave and in it’s place give fire ice floes but call it lava floes. That talent wouldn’t be better than shimmer most likely but it would be nice for fire to have an iconic spell back.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Ignite currently spreads on its own on live and it spreads with Phoenix flames on beta. Also, every other class has a stun. I don’t see the issue with deep freeze. Also arcane orb needs a rework. It’s a cool spell that can’t compete at that row.

Arcane orb has the same issue that ray of frost has, its the pvp talent on that row.

Well, if they are PvP talents then shouldn’t they be in the PvP talents? I say make them interesting or competitive for pve as well as PvP.

I only really play frost so i can only comment on that:

I think 3m is fine, but it should do way more than just increase haste. I always thought it would be neat if when it was cast, it enhanced the water elemental to do more damage giving frost a unique dps CD. Would also be nice in pvp as something that couldn’t be purged immediately.

Would be wonky with how many charges and leaps there are in the game, like could a warrior heroic leap over it? Can Demon Hunters use Rain From Above over it? Might be too much with how many mobility and control options mages already have.

Too good on Frost with double block already and too good on Arcane since they are getting both Alter Time and Temp shield, they dont need another heal.

Or return the PVP set bonus from Wrath(?) that made a sheet of ice on the ground that slowed people in it. A knock back would be more utility than needed. Also its a self peel and would be useful even if it did no damage at all.

I agree. As a pvp talent only though.

Ice Nova is fine as a talent, its a nice option to have as a third root after using 3 novas, or as a way to shatter an ability. Blastwave I agree though, it was a vanilla spell for fire and it should’ve stayed baseline.

Ray of Frost doesn’t really fit the theme of frost, i dont think having any channeled ability works with the spec regardless of what it does. We really just need a whole different talent.

Too many procs, too much rng. Comet is pretty neat. Maybe if it had a chance to freeze people like Kel’thuzads comet ultimate on Heroes of the Storm it would be better.

Arcane Power already lasts 15s at max level in Shadowlands.

  5. 4 Min CD that adds wall of flame/Frost/Arcane that acts as a Mei Wall: i love this idea, but FAR too easy to grief with in a game like this. The player base has proven time and time again that we can’t have things like this. See abuse to early heroic leaps and leap of faith…

  6. Increase Cone of Cold Damage and/or give it a knock back: def more damage, but a knock back is a nice idea too

  7. Cauterize for all specs: Good

  8. Displacement as a talent choice in the Shimmer Row: No opinion

  9. Deep Freeze for Frost: YES

You forgot the two most important ones: Arcane Power off the GCD and Arcane Orb baseline.

Since Mana gems are returning for Arcane in SL with a two minute cooldown between uses, what if they returned 10% mana immediately and another 10% over 5 seconds instead of just 10% mana every two minutes? That would give a little more mana and make them worth using.
