Does anyone actually enjoy any of the hero talents for fun gameplay? Spell Slinger feels like a chore to play and is terrible in open-world content. Compared to other classes I’ve played, mage talents feel very underwhelming. Nothing feels “heroic” about them. The closest one is Sun Fury, and even that feels kind of bland. Frostfire is just all around bad as well.
I have been enjoying the Mage hero talents to be honest. Mage can already feel pretty intricate prior to Hero talents, so I’m glad they didn’t vastly overpower or overcomplicate each spec’s baseline. Most of the Hero talents were designed in this way I believe. Just an added small progression for the new expansion that slightly iterates on the already existing spec gameplay.
I do wish the splinters were more visible, and I would like the Spellfire Spheres to have a little more buoyancy added to their animations. Right now, the spheres feel too static and almost fake looking.
Spellslinger feels pretty good to me. I don’t have to change my rotation other than using Arcane Orb more often. It didn’t feel like much until level 75 because mob tuning isn’t the greatest so far. The Hero Talents are supposed to add on to what you already do, not reinvent the wheel.
I love sunfury.
Arcane is complicated already, having a bunch of mostly passive abilities that look flashy and increase my dps feels right to me.
Having to weave in new abilities to an already convoluted spec would be hard and not as fun.
The Mage hero talents are probably some of the best designed ones of the bunch. The problem is that the bar was very low because all they do is add a bit of flavor and barely change your rotation if at all. Once you understand and accept the hero talents for what they are rather than what players hoped they would be, you see them in a different light and realize mages actually got it pretty good compared to other classes.
I really like spellslinger as arcane. Haven’t tried the other ones though.
Spellslinger feels pretty good, nothing to complain besides the visibility of the splinter storms.
Seeing all the shards flying off at the target when all the procs allign feels great!
Frostfire talents are SUPER bugged right now which completely effects how it feels. Frostfire has been an issue for what feels like a month now.
Known issues:
Frostfire Fire Mage:
- Frostfire Bolt does not trigger or consume Firefall.
- Frostfire Bolt does not trigger the cooldown reduction from Unleashed Inferno, From the Ashes, and Kindling.
- Frostfire Bolt does not trigger on hit effects like Frostfire Infusion, Frostfire Empowerment, Overflowing energy and presumably on hit effects for gear.
- Frostfire Empowerment is removed on cast as well as on hit.
- The Frostfire Empowerment damage and crit chance effects do not work unless you have two stacks of the buff.
Frostfire frost mage:
-
Frostfire Bolt triggers an additional Bone Chilling stack on cast (even failed ones)
-
Frostfire Bolt cleave doesn’t trigger Bone Chilling Frostfire Bolt triggers an additional Fire Mastery stack on hit
-
Frostfire Bolt cleave animation is broken; damage is dealt to different targets
-
Frostfire Bolt doesn’t trigger most on-hit effects (Overflowing Energy, Frostfire Infusion, Frostfire Empowerment, presumably also on-hit gear effects)
-
Frostfire Empowerment can affect multiple Frostfire Bolts with spell queueing
-
Frostfire Empowerment buff is removed on cast as well as on hit
-
Frostfire Empowerment damage and crit chance effects do not work unless you have 2 stacks of the buff
-
Frostfire Empowerment explosion can trigger from the wrong Frostfire Bolt projectile
Arcane Spell slinger with the nether precision spell que gameplay, feels awesome. I am very happy with how arcane landed.
Arcane Spellslinger feels fine to me. Nothing crazy to write home about. I haven’t been able to get into Arcane Sunfury at all, but maybe I need more time with it. Frostfire on Fire looked cool, but it didn’t feel great to play. I don’t play Frost enough to have an opinion on it.
Ss only feels bad to me because of the lack of haste gear, atm.
Sf is managable, but still feeling bad due to lacking some haste and is only better (feeling out the gameplay) due to a passive that increases haste alongside tempo.
As someone that just switched to Arcane after many years of Frost… I completely agree with this - I just had to read what the passives to and understand some of them (it will take some time to be as familiar with them as I was with Frost… ) but yeah, at least I didn’t have to worry about other spells being introduced.
Frostfire is extremely undertuned for both fire and frost. I love the fantasy of it but it’s unfortunate that I have to take a major damage loss to play it.
I would love to play Arcane Spellslinger, but being 20% underneath Sunfury, it’s just unjustifiable at that level. I thought they said they’d tune hero talents to be similar numerically to race difference? This is feeling more like Shadowlands covenants aesthetically where you might not want to play the hero talent suite that you prefer.
Yes. They are all amazing.
Did you really believe them?
They can’t even balance the baseline spec talents, what makes you think they’ll do any better with hero talents?
I am quite enjoying Spellslinger, I just wish it wasn’t so far behind Sunfury in damage.
