Mage Healer Seems Broken in P3

Hey all:

Trying to play a mage healer here and having some serious difficulty as of phase 3. I felt pretty confident this was an okay healer to play at the end of phase 2, but in phase 3, I am feeling super sad about the lack of instant cast healing spells/instant cast arcane damage spells. There are some fights in ST that require a lot of movement and mage heals is sorely lacking on those fights. Anything I’m missing, any pointers?

Go to era and make a priest heal, or roll a shaman

Thanks for the totally useless comment.

Get the Chronostatic Preservation rune, which gives you a 2 sec cast to create an item that remains in your inventory for up to 15 sec. If you have PoM you can get it insta for emergencies. Clicking this item causes a massive instant heal to your target. It is le awesome. And it’s cheap. There is no CD and you can recreate the item as many times as you need.

My group is 5 healing with 1 dedicated tank healer and 4 healers assigned to keeping specific groups up (I’m one of these) and I haven’t felt like its been too much of an issue so far. That being said, I’m healing a caster group that doesn’t take a lot of damage on most of the fights, so most of the time I’m more of a DPS that tosses a regen on the tank or a mass regen on my group from time to time.

That being said, you should be keeping a chronostatic preservation in your pocket most times, since you have 20 seconds to cast it and it’s by far our strongest heal. Also, I assume you’re running the missile barrage rune for free AM procs?

Other than that, it’s just a game of timing your mass regens right and making sure you aren’t going too crazy with arcane blast. Presence of mind into an AB / Chronostatic is also helpful in a pinch, even though it’s on a 3m CD.

The only fight I felt that was annoying from a “I don’t have any on demand instant casts” standpoint was the slime boss. What are the other ones you’re feeling are difficult? It may be more of an issue of how your group is going about the encounter, than mage healer itself.

5 healers for ST?

Oooof

Not everyone is a sweaty minmax tryhard. You set your group up according to what it needs.

Will prob drop down to 4 soon. I mean like I said, I was basically just a DPS tossing off heals here and there. But yea, our raid lead skews towards stacking healers when content is new.

No one likes era anymore stop mentioning it

Yeah, I can tell

I’ve found 2 ab then switch to a sfb then back you can get a lot of healing mileage

Imagine talking THIS TOUGH when the only log you have is a 6 minute defenders kill and 7 minutes on morphaz. Did you guys evade glitch the boss and have to start over? Going to be charitable and assume you guys full cleared the raid both lockouts and just didn’t log those fights for some reason :)>.

Neither of our kills for those bosses took that long

Everything you’ve mentioned is true to how I play my mage healer. I’ve started to wonder lately if we are supposed to be more like a shadow priest–which I have noticed lately is putting out as much healing as I am and not even trying to do it! I have started to feel like a bit of a janky third wheel that is mostly overheal. Since the class keeps changing so dramatically every patch and skills get nerfed, I am starting to wonder if I should focus more on just DPS then worrying myself over keeping people alive.
