Mage for mythics

I know arcane is the meta for m+ dungeons but what are the frost mages like

They cannot keep up with a lot of classes that do better in AOE.

I think 4+ mob packs it really starts to show how underwhelming frost mage AOE is at.

Last week in raid I got on normal council I got a 95% parse at 62k dps. The monk ahead of me at 72 was low blue and the demon hunter doing 95% was 90k. And that was with frost mage buffs.

Right, and this is on an AoE/Cleave fight where Frost is doing okay-ish. In ST Frost DPS is abysmal.

Frost is awful. My mage was 382 during first week of keys. Wasn’t happy with the damage so I swaped to my hunter in honor and bloody coin gear and was doing considerably more damage at 356ilvl. I stuck with frost most of SL and pushed 20s+ the 3 season I played it but it’s just not good right now. The survivability and utility is fantastic but the damage just isn’t there.

They really need to do a lot of work on Frost. It’s currently really held back/dependent on Thermal Void/Icy Veins for its ST damage. Not only does this make it boring (no glacial spike or ebonbolt…every point is there to benefits icicles/ice lance/Icy veins), it’s bad design. Our whole spec is “Keep Icy Veins up”.

They need to remove Thermal Void, give us flat damage increases, reduce the cast time of ebonbolt/GS, and change our last tier talents (because they suck). Also, we need more to AoE then Orb/Blizzard. Or buff the damage of blizzard.

Give us some fun stuff…execute mechanics, etc. Maybe Glacial Spike could be a purely executive mechanic that replaces frostbolt? Just throwing ideas out. Either way it should be something fun and a big net add in damage to cast.

I’ve been playing PvE frost since Wrath…and while it’s had its up and downs (mostly downs since it was a PvP spec for a long time and nothing more). It’s been sad to see it turn into such a boring spec when played optimally. It’s literally just flurry/ice lance/frostbolt with icy veins up.

Fires single target rotation is looking pretty good

On council with stacked bosses and cleaving during combust + rop and im spiking 80+k going down to around 50+k

Mythic + however. Fire aoe is abysmal with my build.

Mages need help.

Fire and Frost are just in a horrendous state. You can look at data.
Both specs were so bad they buffed them both…
But all the buffs did was put fire just ahead of dead last Frost.

No one would be complaining if it was 10% behind the top specs that get attention but on some fights, we’re near tank damage. In mythic plus, there are healer and tank specs that can beat us in overall.

Frost in m+ been more or less fine. With BL every five minutes you can trick people into thinking you have damage

Nearly 2.3k io as frost, it’s playable but overall weak compared to most classes.

Nice. Just passed 2100… as 398 Ilevel I don’t think I can go past a 15 rn in the harder dungeons and time it (without being carried).

Dmg just isn’t there.

Imo frost feels really good to play right now, just needs another 10-15% dmg buff and it would be A teir.

Besides that id like to see shifting power castable while moving, and maybe have snowstorm make CoC area Fx 50% bigger @ 30 stacks. This is mostly QoL when you’re tired to your RoP and need to hit a pack a tank is kiting.

I’m in same boat, just passed 2100 and every dungeon at the end I’m consistently 10-15k dps below the other two DPS. I might beat them on boss fights barely, but the lack of trash damage really holds Frost Mage back.

Only way I compete on AOE is if I can get a second Frozen Orb out before my first one expires.
