Mage DPS Expectations

My mage is L120, ILVL 432, currently Fire Spec but bouncing back and forth at the moment.

My question(s):

  1. WHat sort of DPS numbers should i expect to see?
  2. How are you getting those numbers?

I just visited this website: noxxic - It has rankings of different classes and specs like we’ve seen on other sites before. The part i’m tripping over, however, iis that it’s showing the top entries as being around 440,000 dps.

That’s right, nearly 1/2 million DMG per SECOND. That number is roughly 40 times higher than what DETAILS addon reports to me for ANY toon, not just myself.

WTF is going on here? How do i know if my DPS is lower or higher than it should be? What am i comparing to?

use warcraftlogs if you want to see real posible dps

Warcraft Logs can provide you with data on other fire mages, broken up in ilvl brackets. You can also sim yourself on Raidbots for what dps you could/should be pumping out, as well as comparing talent builds, pieces of gear, etc.
