I’m looking at subpar damage consistently as a frost mage, I cant PvP effectively either, did they overnerf mages or are we just bound to scale better eventually
in the couple dungeons ive dune already at 145ilevel frost/venth I’ve been top charts except for this arcane mage and BM hunter in one run. obviously none of us have gear or leggos and stuff so its way too early to justify stuff.
I’m pretty casual but I’ve gone from fire back to frost and I wish it felt a little more fun…it’s kinda like you hit like a wet noodle until you get brain freeze and then you two shot the mob. If it procs quick you move quickly if it doesn’t it’s painful. I can’t believe I’m missing my elemental but I kind of miss the watery tart.
Loss of borrowed power is a giant kick in the nuts, wpvp while questing is rough.
Id like Fireblast to be a bit more interesting, maybe a guaranteed crit under 30% hp or something for Frost/Arcane.
Yeah. Feels like devs got fed up with ppl wanting old abilities that they gave them but without any useful purpose.
“Want fireblast? here, now shut up”
Fireblast is insanely useful in pvp removing spell reflect and killing grounding totem while preserving your fingers procs.
To the topic, frosts fine in pvp but it is noticably worse than it was prior to getting back to back to back to back nerfs which were aimed at its raid performance. You will feel better off when you can get triune ward legendary PvP wise. Its fine and playable and all, but it sucks when you look at the damage your partner does during the game. Or when you watch a shadow priest or warrior or hunter or enhancement shaman or rogue or ret melt someone as fast as you while also having more sustain than you and also having good utility like you.
PvEwise, your damage is significantly better once you get the dps lego and reasonable haste amount.
I have to say I feel the same way. around 160 ilvl and seems like every other class is out damaging me. Hopefully better with the leggo but who knows.
the lack of procs sometimes hurts , but we have low haste (less FB = less procs)
I’m absolutely loving fire, i’d recommend giving it a shot.
I suspect scaling will improve us. I know Fire benefits a lot as you gear up.
Loving a spec, and it being viable in a raid environment are two different things.
Fire is most definitely viable for raid lol. Tf are you even on about.
Well my little frost mage friend, I am a 200iLvl frost mage and I have done 10/10 N and 3/10 H in Castle Nath. I’ve also spent over 2500 soul ash on 2 legendary items to test/swap between for content. Frost mage is terrible and does not get better with gear. The damage and cast time of frostbolt is awful, especially on high mobility fights when you cant get a proc of Brain Freeze or Fingers of Frost. Sometimes you can be casting 2 or 3 times in between a mechanic, then stop casting to dodge mechanic for 2-3 seconds, just to start casting our weak frostbolts for another 4 or 5 times before having a proc (that in no way makes up that damage gap compared to other classes/specs such as Ignite). That is spec breaking in current raids. With the level of movement mechanics, its just not feasible, especially when we have no damage over time to buffer that loss. The only area frost mage is semi-decent is on aoe pulls within M+, however MANY other classes (MM hunter, Boomkin, UD DK, just to name a few) will outshine us on those pulls AND be beating our single target damage by 20%…thats just not right.
It wont, especially compared to how other specs are scaling right now. With the current state of mage, frost will continue to be more and more irrelevant until they fix the speed/damage of frost bolt and the rate of Brain Freeze proc to be more in-tune with the raid/mythic+ mechanics.
frost needs some tunning for sure , fb needs a boost in both dmg and proc rate , its annoying casting 5 FB before u see a proc…but wait then u cast another FB > flurry and guess what? FOF PROCS…its so awesome!
p.d NO
Maybe if rune of power had no global cooldown or cast, perhaps it could improve our mobility and damage a little bit in PvP lol. But right now, if you want to beat a frost mage, all you have to do as melee is pressure them. I feel like mages can’t cast at all even if the mage is trying to stack haste.
ROP is extremely controversial.
Some mages hate it and some accept it for damage purposes.
It is simply still there because Blizz is too lazy to make changes.
frost mage is honestly unplayable in pvp the damage is so low every single hybrid can out heal all forms of damage including your burst setup. You have literally zero control over melee anymore hell Arcane has as much control with how useless roots are and how insanely low frosts damage out put it. You could use grisly icicle with cooldowns and cast 6 shatter frostbolts into someone and it will still do less than a non-cooldown ret paladins basic rotation.
Frost bolt needs to be doing almost 2x the damage its currently doing or more and the proc rate of fingers and brain freeze need to be higher.
