Oh, I suppose you’re right. Such a small quibble though.
I would say that cast bar vs no cast bar is a huge deal. Playing a bm hunter vs playing a caster is like breathing vs being waterboarded, especially in certain encounters or with certain affixes.
But I do love the theme of mage, and cast bars aren’t tooooo bad. However, when getting a new fun ability to use, I most 100% do not want more things that can be stopped when I have to move that then results in less damage overall.
Dead on in my opinion, it’s not that the abilities are bad it’s that they don’t really “feel good”; numbers be damned.
Deathborne looks interesting but we have so much AOE and Cleave already it’s like… I like the idea of having one ability that’s more burst focused I just think the effect should change based on casted spec.
Radiant Spark is pretty bland, you cast a spell to deal more damage for the next 4 spells… we have lots of this in our kits as-is.
Mirrors of Torment is… kinda interesting, would be more appealing if it were instant-cast but it’s effect is unique enough to stand out as-is.
Shifting power is also semi-interesting, would be more appealing if instead of being an AOE around the player you could channel it like old-school Blizzard OR make it instant cast and it restores CD’s based on targets hit.
Just thinking about this again, I feel that it would have been so much better to just make one of our existing spells do something more exciting with what it already does. For example, Death Knight got their death and decay changed/buffed by the Night Fae.
Why not do something like that? Like now, when you cast frozen orb, if you are a necrolord, it becomes necroORB and does some shadow damage on top of the frost damage it already does and it glows green now.
Now a signature spell of the spec changes and becomes enhance and is also a visual attachment to your covenant. And to keep it simple, each covenant changes the same ability, but it makes it a different color or something. And as you move up in conduit ranks, attach an intellect buff to it as well.
I mean, I realize that it is kinda lame, but at the same time, it wouldn’t mess us up and add something that is gonna end up boring or frustrating to our rotation. It just buffs our stuff based on the covenant we choose.
I realize this isn’t going to happen at this point in the game, but I would personally be hyped if that’s how covenants worked, rather than getting impossible to balance abilities locked behind aesthetic choices.
