Mage cant aoe farm

im lvl 21 and i cant kill mobs before they reach me with blizzard. i guess my gear isnt good enough or because i only have 2/3 in improved blizzard?

There’s a few videos on youtube that explain the how-to and which talents you should pick. If you follow the guide and still find yourself struggling, you might need to improve your gear.

I don’t remember seeing AoE farmers at 20, but I ran into a lot of them around the late 30s.

yeah they say to wait until at least 22 to get 3/3 improved blizzard but i thought i could get away with only 2/3. however another problem i forgot to mention is that im oom after i use my 2nd blizzard, so its probably a gear issue, not having enough int on gear

I only have 1/3 improved blizzard, am 22 amd can AoE pull pretty well. Flame strike, frost nova, blizzard, arcane nova spam.

Yeah wait till 22. I attempted to start AOE farming at 21 a well, didn’t go well. The lack of the full slow on Blizzard, along with the mana expense as you mention, means it’s simply not viable till 22.

Though my biggest issue was the level of the mobs I was trying to farm, I ended up waiting till 23. Because the zone I was starting to farm in had mostly 23 and 24 mobs, trying to AOE farm higher level mobs like that will be a bad time, one resist on your nova and that’s a ruined pull. The rule of the thumb is ideally you want them your level or below, one higher at the most, anything more than that and there will be so many resists it’s not worth your time.

Now depending on what zone you are in, and what level the mobs you plan to farm are, you may be able to get away with starting a bit earlier, maybe even 21 if they’re low enough.

And you only want 2/3 Imp Blizz so you’re CoC slow applies I believe

I do however sometimes need to coldsnap and recast frost nova and blink the blizzard again. Sad panda for the long CD on cold anap :frowning:

Some like all 3 in improved blizz, some like 2. I prefer all 3 in blizzard, it worked well for me while I was aoe farming. If you look up guides they vary as to which is better.

That one is mostly a preference thing.

God I feel so bad for you and your 10 minute cool down.

Sobs hysterically in 30 minute shared CD between three abilities

lmao ya, I feel for ya

Level 21 is a hard level to aoe grind. You can do it, but you need to know what you’re doing.

On a side note, I recommend just going single target spec. You and 100000 other mages are trying to aoe grind the same spots. You’ll get less xp than just questing normally and you hinder yourself in PvP content when aoe spec when you get to those zones.

Yeah I actually have done this myself.

After 8 levels of AOE farming, and having to compete with questers and other farmers for mobs, getting ganked by rogues mid-pull, it got quite old. Not to mention AOE farming gets super, eye-gougeingly, boring after a while. And yeah as you mention the AOE spec is only good for AOE farming, it’s utter trash for PvP and ST dmg.

I said screw it and went back to questing, and gotta say it’s been more fun, after all it’s not a race. Plus having shatter is just awesome!

I tried it at lvl 21 on some westfall mobs. Its honestly way easier if you just wait a level and do it when you have 3/3 in blizzard slow.
