Sooo big surprise, the measley 12% dmg buff did pretty much absolutely nothing to help fire mage and I can’t speak for frost.
It’s pretty simple - get rid of RoP or make IF even somewhat comparable - buff damage accordingly (an actual buff)- make some of the talents not useless like living bomb that’s currently tuned for level 40’s.
Then maybe we’ll have a pure dps class that can actually dps in the current state of this game. Pyroblast out here hitting people for 20k it’s embarrassing and we have talents that we just can’t use especially in PvP because they legit do zero damage…

RoP needs to go. It’s horrible.
It also sucks that is effectively the class-defining mage ability. It’s a required talent for every mage spec for every type of gameplay. And the burn phase for every mage spec revolves around its usage.
Having one talent be so overpowering is poor class design.
- It make the player feel like there are no viable alternatives. Lack of meaningful choice is bad, since the whole point of the talent system is to give players choices.
- Since the burn phase for every spec revolves around its use, the result is all the mage specs feel a bit too similar in gameplay. This is bad for spec diversity as well as being horrible for players who do not enjoy RoP.

Not only that but in this current meta they know its damn near impossible for you to stay in that tiny circle for the duration because every melee in this game can’t be cc’d anymore and all have a billion mobility CD’s. It’s just poor design and whoever came up with it should be fired.
Even with RoP the class is completely underwhelming damage wise right now in comparison to the rest of the cast especially for a class with 0 heals and is meant to be purely DPS… big sigh on this patch I hope they aren’t done trying to fix this useless class, you can’t fight anybody, literally the entire roster does more damage than you and most of them are able to heal themselves at the same time.

Agreed.
RoP is absolutely holding the Mage class back. The damage increase is also insulting considering we are rooted to RoP and are casting. Melee classes completely put casters to shame.

Yeah, at the very least they should make it do more damage during combustion. It’s literally the least scary 2 minute burst cooldown in the game you do pretty much the same damage unless you have RoP which drops during combust and you make sure you stand in it… Fire is supposed to be bursty and scary when you pop combustion and its just not because the damage is all around garbage even after the measly 12% buff they gave it.
What’s really funny is when you drop a giant meteor from the sky on somebody and it does 25k dmg… that one makes me giggle
You have to take greater pyroblast to do any burst damage and it takes 4 minutes to cast and travels at the speed of a turtle in molasses to its intended target letting them know “Hey! now would be a good time to reflect this or wall!”

Frost mage even after buff won’t get you invited into raids. It’s abysmal. Dunno why Blizz is trying to force Mage into one spec. I can’t just switch to Arcane and automatically do good dps… Rotations to learn, etc.

Please remove RoP. Please Extend 15s SKB proc cd to 30 sec to 1min. Please make combustion feel good again.

I want to feel combustion dmg spikes like before. Not random combustion procs of wimsy dmg. Hitting combust should make a difference not a disappointment.
Firemage need real love. We dont need to be #1,2, 3, 4 on dps meters. We want respectable dmg
We can fix this together. Please blizzard help. I have faith.

If they remove rop do you guys want a spell in place or just passive buffs to compensate for the lost dps?
RoP just moving with mage would solve all issues. Like just a flat damage buff on cooldown.

Yeah in this day and age you can’t expect a mage to be standing still for their entire burst CD. It just isn’t going to happen most of the time and is easily countered. If it moved with the mage and they made the CD 2 minutes like combustion it would be fine. I think changing RoP to a flat DMG buff like Edgy said and buffing Meteor and Living bomb would make them worth playing because those two talents dmg is just hot garbage, living bomb explodes on people for like 1500 dmg lmao

The whole fire mage spec is kind of ridiculous when I step back and look at it.
ROP is ridiculous. Not just the limitation that you have to stay in a certain area. But when such a ridiculous percentage of your class damage is tied to a cooldown.
Pyroblast is ridiculous. It’s one of the longest casts in the game. You would figure it should hit like a truck. Buts it’s pretty weak spell.
Pyroclasm is ridiculous. A very low proc rate, a very long cast time and mediocre damage. When you cut out all the times it procs way too late in the fight and all the times I’m interrupted it should hit for a million damage when I actually get one off.
Hyperthemia is ridiculous. No on-screen notification and it’s tied to the same button for Pyroblast hard casts, Pyroclasm hard casts and hot streak Pyroblast casts. How many things do you want one freaking button to cover?
Living Bomb ridiculous, Meteor ridiculous, Flamestrike ridiculous.
Even Sun King is ridiculous. I don’t have numbers but it wouldn’t surprise me if taking the time to cast Pyroblast to get the combustion proc would actually be a net DPS loss. Combustion isn’t that great and a Pyroblast hard cast is just a waste of time.

I’m not a fire main or anything, but I do have fun playing it from time to time.
My biggest complaint is Sun King. It’s just atrocious to use. Make it fire off the next Phoenix Flames or something…Hardcasting a Pyroblast is just garbage. Make it real fun and have it send Two Phoenix Flames (when proc’d) on your next cast, both guaranteed to be a critical strike (this way you get an instant pyro immediately)…and then add 1.5 sec to the buff (for the GCD) and it would feel good then.

I would be happy with a base damage increase to main spells such as Fireball. Once upon a time, it was worth casting and dealt decent damage. Now it’s just there to fish procs and it is relatively useless without talents to help improve its damage, especially in PvP.

The more haste the less you cast [Fireball] so I’d rather they buff something else instead.
This would be nice. I love arcane but when I switch over to my evoker or shadow priest I realize how much RoP really sucks. Sure, shadow is fairly immobile but at least I’m not having to gauge my rune at all times to see if I can make it back to it before/after some mechanic forces me out of it. 90% of the time my evoker is hovering so unless it’s an empowered spell it doesn’t phase me. Then I hop back on my mage and it’s so glaringly obvious that this is a terrible design.

I remember when I played as lock destro in Pandaria the casting time was a little high but… It was either really nice or “oh sheet, im dead” looking at the chaos bolt going to a enemy or coming to hit you, because you knew that it would hit like a truck. And Pyro is just… a joke.

Good sir, my damage went from healer tier to almost tank tier. One more buff and I may finally be among the lowest damage tanks!
