Mage Blink spell says, "Teleports you forward 20 yd or until reaching an obstacle, and frees you from all stuns and bonds" Problem is that regardless of my talent Slipstream or Shimmer, it teleports me the direction I'm headed regardless of the direction I am facing. So, unless you "fixed" or changed Blink to work like Shimmer used to, you need to fix Blink. Even Shimmer doesn't say you keep going the direction you're going. Fix Blink, it was our way to avoid knockback.
You may have talked to a mage trainer at some point and opted into this behavior. They give you the choice of changing the way both Blink and Shimmer work, I believe, so you Blink in the direction you are moving when you cast it.
Arcane Momentum is a passive ability that is in my spellbook. Thank you! I just went to Gija in Org and she had an option about the Arcane Momentum technique which allowed me to unlearn that POS.
Arcane momentum is great if you are strafing and using instant spells. It allows you to continue in your desired direction. But if its not working for you, by all means go with what you like.
