Madseason quitting wow

Old gamer here. Have no issue with earning stuff, however also have no issue with people buying stuff. Their money, their account, their problem.

I know a lot of people who only get maybe 2-3 hours to play each week, so the idea of them having to grind continuously to get on the same level as me doesn’t work for them, so they bought skips. There are actually a lot of people in this similar position where boosts and clears allow them to actually participate with content and play with their friends.

I understand the philosophy behind it from over twenty years ago, yes.

Here’s the thing.

Things change. People change. More people come to the genre and the genre shifts dramatically to the casual player who doesn’t have the time to put in as much work as you or I to accomplish the same thing.

Boosts allow them to participate in current content and experience the cool stuff that you and I do.

Not allowing that option for them, is essentially blocking them from playing which is essentially gate keeping.

I get it, people don’t like MTX but it’s time people grow up and realize that times change and we are no longer the target audience.

Also old gamer here. I’m aware of time constraints but the ripple effect of buying status has negative implications to other people’s gaming. From my own personal experience with pushing keys last season (and even earlier today when trying to push a 14 in a pug), I have seen people with supposedly decently high keys timed join my groups only to get nailed by mechanics and do no damage over and over.

If those people who bought their way to where they wanted to be only ever stayed in their sandbox with their friends then yeah I also wouldn’t care about it in that way. I still think it is bad for the game’s content regardless of how anyone justifies it though. There are plenty of games out there for people with no time to spend on long grinds – or, just let the grind be long and take your time.

This is gatekeeping.
People are free to play whatever game they want in whatever way they want. They chose this game. They can play it however they want.

Someone who bought their way to high keys isn’t going to succeed at the game and will weed themselves out. That’s how this always goes.

Leave it to a Gnome to speaketh reason.
I concur.

At what point did I ever say people aren’t free to do that? Of course people are free to do that. It isn’t good for the game, was my point.

According to leaks, and Blizzard employees, most of the out of touch people don’t care - and are “thankful” people like Asmon left - but the people who actually understand reality are worried, and they really should be.

You didn’t directly state it. But statements like that are basically it. You think something is bad for the game and you want it removed, regardless of the people who disagree and benefit from said thing.

I have no illusions of the token going anywhere, I am just stating my opinion about how it has damaged the game for players like me – of whom there are many.

It’s obviously fun for players who like the option, but by introducing it they basically nuked a large portion of their fanbase.

See, I don’t think it nuked as many as people think, but without internal numbers it’s hard to say for sure.

Yeah it’s too bad they don’t release those numbers since wod when they introduced the token. (a little playful jab there lol)

From personal experience, I can tell you of at least 20 people who didn’t come back for 9.1, as my entire raid team decided to call it quits because they dislike things like the token and the systems currently in the game.

I’ve only been logging on the last week and a half because I still have several months left on my sub and I have this weird thing about feeling like “they got my money I’m going to play the game while I’ve paid for it.”

Just because you do not consider it content creation doesn’t mean it’s not that. To be a content creator is to create content. If you create content on the internet, you are by definition a content creator. Streamers, youtubers, musicians, etc - they’re all content creators.

Normally, I find you pretty down to earth, but this is a take I severely disagree with. You can create something from something else. That’s why we have things like transformative law, and other such things. You are creating your own type of content, within another content circle.

Even if someone is just streaming something simple like leveling, they are creating content because they are providing something that a viewer can interact and associate with. That is content creation. They are the content.

Oof another one that’s gonna hurt. Right in the feels.

Really?
I don’t notice when random nobodies leave a game.
Then again, they’re just random nobodies, why should I even notice them.
Literally heard about this guy for the first time today.
Watched his video and laughed because it’s no different than the trolls who come to the forums to make threads about their quitting the game.

Retail is retail and I have no issue with paid boosts in the current game. But the entire point of releasing classic was so that players who DID enjoy the old version could experience it again. Paid boosts and tokens completely defeats that purpose and ruins the classic experience. Hence why TBCC hasn’t been nearly as successful as classic was.

This I sort of understand.
But the mindset of those wanting classic and thinking they were going to get a 100% recreation, stupid.
Level boosts also expected because people flat out did not want to level up again.
Time is money so they say.

If that was your first impression take-away then I’d encourage you to watch some of his other videos, IF you like watching wow-related content. He has made videos going over random parts of the game, some of which are older and I didn’t even know about, and aside from that he seems like a very nice fella.

If you don’t care about wow videos in general though then obviously no need to know him. Just a member of the community nerding out about the game.

People are weird

It’s my first interaction with his content. Literally never heard of him until that video and it screams like the people who come to the forums to announce their departure.
