All of those features in the article listed have either had their impact toned down to the point where they don’t really offer any meaningful advantage. Heirlooms no longer give bonus XP and questing is just as fast, often faster, than spamming dungeons if you’ve got a decent route.
The problem is that fundamentally retail is not designed to be a difficult game to get to relevant content in. It’s designed to be a game where you can stop playing for 6, 12 or 24 months and be able to play with your friends again in a week or two.
Which is basically what would happen (assuming people just didn’t ignore the realm to play regular classic). People would use the routes they already know, get to max cap in a day or two, spam M+ dungeons in a premade group until geared and then do Mythic raiding.
It’s the same gameplay loop that currently exists.
I want you to shut up because you’re injecting your opinions into conversations where they aren’t relevant, and presenting them as fact.
You’re a wall of no loser and absolutely terrified of alternatives being presented for players who don’t like your carebear lobby game shell of an MMO.
its an interesting idea. there are some things that would make it more attractive also, such as things added later in the game that didnt increase player power but made it more fun, which i think vanilla was loaded with such as appearance changes from things like the stave of hoof and claw, the ogre costume, the orb of deception, nogginfogger, things that increased height, pirate and ninja cosrtumes, and so on,. i think tbc added orb of sindorei and wrath added the iron dwarf flask, a frost dwarf and etc
i said all that to say that cosmetics, mogging and the barbershop are worth adding to your suggested version because its not only not effecting player power its also not boosting your level, its just fun
Pristine servers came and went like a fart in the wind. No one paid much attention to them at the time.
I feel sorry for Jay Allen Brack. Dude is remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Pristine servers as I understand it would be something of a lacklustre version of retail; Like it would just add a lot of tedium to the game for the sake of making everything slower and crappier for those who partake in it.
And beyond that, theres nothing stopping players from engaging in this way; you can absolutely get a group of friends together and collectively agree to not utilize those conviences and just play the game “straight”.
well if you dont have heirlooms, you either have to run dungeons, raid, buy from ah, craft your own gear or quest. so instantly, ah gets busier and professions stay viable thru out and not just at end game. this increases community interaction. so tedium not really, just a different approach to the rpg part of the mmorpg
Let me remind you of what getting groups together was like before the LFG system was implemented.
You would sit there, calling into the void on multiple channels (Zone, LFG and probably trade) hoping that you’d be able to cobble together the requisite number of players to be able to go and do the content in question. Now, maybe you’re in a guild and this goes faster which is great, but for people who weren’t or who worked odd hours or whatever that wasn’t an option, so you wind up with folks calling for an hour or more in hopes of finding those people… and then hoping against hope that you could get through the dungeon without any drama or having a fake tank or fake heals (IE someone who rolled DPS and lied their butts off to get into the group).
Contrast that with the current system, where I can be in a group in 10 minutes flat and If I like them I can either join their guild or add them to my friends list.
Wait an hour for a dungeon run, if you get one. I love rdf in classic. I went from begging for an hour for 1 run to 3 or 4 runs an hour. I’ve had some tanks pull some nice speed runs to shave time.
As dps. Even in leveling varied leveling ranges.
TBC(c) mana tombs is not a liked dungeon by some. I never saw this in tbcc the redo. That dungeon tanks charged. This was not a boost, it was not a carry. They charged jsut to show up. You’d pay…and actually work the dungeon.
My recent leveler saw it 4 or 5 times in her 60 to 70 run. Tanks and healers see the rdf pull and get 2 choices.
they can stay and clear it in 15 minutes. Or…they can drop and wait 30 minutes. Or kill one boss to play that game. But if they downed 1 boss…wth, stay for the rest too.
I think my all time favourite case of trying to get a dungeon group going was RFK; I was playing as a rogue at the time and I had heard that there was a good knife that dropped early in the dungeon and thought “keen”, I even had my buddy who was a Ret pally but the dungeon was low enough level that he could credibly tank or heal as long as we could get the other person to roll in to cover.
Then my guild master (a rogue) joined us after a couple of hours of us spamming channels and while I didn’t like him (he had screwed me out of meteor shard) I thought to myself “Why not”.
We spend hours at this point, spamming channels and trying to find someone, anyone to help fill out our group… and eventually we get another rogue. With the comp being what it was and this being late BC, we needed either a tank or a healer because we simply didn’t have the DPS to get through this.
New guy asks me to pass lead because he has a guy… and invites a ****ing rogue.
I’m trying to puzzle out how the hell this is going to work, since my buddy can’t tank and heal since his mana bar can’t handle that kind of load but these two idiots are convinced that we can each attack our own guy and the paladin will be fine… healing and tanking with no mana gear…
It went bad, but beyond that I had been sitting in my chair for like 7 hours and we’d been struggling to make any progress when I announced that I need to drain the lizard… and then these chuds went and murdered the boss with the knife while I was indisposed. Since I didn’t participate, I get no role.
7 hours. No loot. Maximum salt.
The old LFG system can stay dead in the shallow grave blizzard buried it in as far as I’m concerned.
so here i was running cata rfk in a LFD group made from random servers. my character was a holy paladin and i was new at it and was group healer. suddenly, our rogue jumped up on a hut on the spiral of thorns, targeted a mob on the top spiral and threw a knife at it, then vanished and left the group. no one else saw him do this, just me. i immediately saw the mobs coalescing into a running army of angry skeletons, picking up new members as they looped down the spiral.
i panicked and rapidly mouseovered my paladin abilities, trying to select the right shield for our tank. i misread and selected the one that makes the tank invulnerable and unable to move but kills the paladin. the tank was really impressed that the healer had killed herself and stopped him from mounting a defense, while the mobs killed the rest of his group. he survived though.
Cross realm stuff is fine. It’s not some toxic addition to the game. And a manual group finder, just the search tool, (no teleports) would be ok ish. Much better for Vanilla Classic than the click a button and your party is formed with zero effort then teleport to the instance tool.
Realm transfers by themselves wouldn’t be terrible, but leave out faction change and especially the token. Leave out anything that gives a player a skip or advantage.
whatdaya think of the idea of a version where you have to play thru all expacs and cant proceed to the next till youve run all the dungeons and raids for each one. it would require an achievements reboot for it exclusively. also removing heirlooms would fix so many problems
No. The game is no longer designed in that way. The entire reason classic was created was for players who wanted that vanilla feel. Those servers are still there. Blizzard is even creating many versions of classic if you get bored with the old one. You can play Vanilla,Hardcore, SOD and Cataclysm. That’s more than enough. We don’t need multiple versions of retail too.
lol well all the people who love end game, would re-experience end game for each expac . i certainly wouldnt play it cause i’m too old and handicapped to even survive c’thun fight much less later raids. it just has that …whos bad, we bad… sound to it. and when final expac added is reached, its the challenge of who will get there and finish it first
