Hello, fellow non-raiders. When I first heard that the means of unlocking tier set cloak appearances was locked behind raiding I was very disappointed. After all these great strides forward in solo player end game content it felt like we were suddenly being downgraded again. Apparently there wouldn’t even be cloaks dropping for us to use in the catalyst. So I eventually decided to bite the bullet and actually look at the details of how we get the cloaks. And dudes, turns out it’s actually really easy. I hope I can encourage other non-raiders to give this a go.
So the way it works is that rank 2 of the raid rep has a perk which enables the second boss to drop a token. That token can be traded for one class’s cloak appearance ensemble. All four colours per ensemble!
So how hard is it to reach rank 2? Really damn easy! Took me five boss kills. I did lfr last week with the first three bosses. This week I did first wing again and after the second boss kill I hit rank 2.
Now, even though this was the second boss I didn’t get the token drop yet. I first got a quest to kill that second boss which would reward that first token. Bummer. However, when I jumped onto an alt the quest had updated to complete! I handed it in and got the first token. Got the priest cloaks.
Now on this alt I did lfr wing one again. Got another token drop from the second boss. Got the paladin cloaks. Beautiful. I haven’t yet done it again on another alt to see if I get more than one token drop per week. If someone could confirm, that would be great.
So how hard are these first three bosses? Super, duper easy! I don’t know how these stack up compared to other raid bosses in the eyes of regular raiders, but to me they seem like a cakewalk. And I have only ever lightly dabbled with lfr in the past. I just watched Hazel’s raid guides for them on youtube. Quick and easy. Only a few mechanics on each to remember.
So yeah, if anyone is still feeling annoyed about this or was figuring they just wouldn’t bother with finishing their tier set, I strongly encourage you to give this a go. Honestly it is not nearly as inaccessible as it may seem. I believe in you!

Well apparently it’s simply that no cloaks drop that can be used in the catalyst. Since we have the reshi wraps. So I’m told.

Considering there are supposed to be no cloak drops, probably not.
Instead, you can loot an item from one of the bosses once you’ve reached a certain Vandals renown level, and you trade that item to a vendor for tokens that unlock the cloak tints for a particular set.

Yeah, just saw on Wowhead.
Well good news that means delvers won’t be hit with cloaks after cloaks this season so maybe it isn’t all bad.

The first three bosses on norm are easier than their LFR equivalent and have the same mechanics.
If people can’t do this, they’re impossibly bad at the game.

Can’t you just do rated pvp instead?
I think just missing out on the completed tier set on the outfits list is going to bother me more than actually not having the cloak I’ll never use.

Raid rep is dumb.
I would follow that up with any ‘Non grindable on my own time’ rep is dumb too, but people like their timegating.
You max it out by doing like 2 wings of LFR a week. I have no idea what “your own time” looks like, but that’s an incredibly small commitment. And most of the rewards are stuff that’s completely meaningless outside the raid anyway…so if you don’t raid, they don’t matter.
My own time is: If I wanna sit down and knock a rep out in a weekend, I can. Giving players agency over rep (renown whatever) is something they realllllly need to rework in the modern game. One less thing on a time gate.
Farmable turn ins, mini quests, rep mats, hell even just mobs giving small amounts. Anything that gives the player the ability to do it when they want, not when the game wants them to (x amount of bosses this week, oh wait, gotta do it every week to cap).

until cloak is at max, also doing 3 bosses of LFR is the fastest way to get your upgrade per week.
